KIAD facility info

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I noticed I have a bunch of 3M (9ft) long runways made out of Ice in Washington KIAD.

Maybe this is how FSX creates Ice patches around airports, but the funny thing is this was a summer flight.

I have attached a pic.

Anybody know if this is normal?

Rob,

I seem to recall AFCAD setup for using all runways (AI) for takeoff and landing / crosswinds.

Is your scenery looking right when flying it?

Yes scenery looks just fine.

I am using default KIAD, no updated AFCAD in use.

I was thinking this Ice maybe comes from one of my addons?

Like REX, GEX, UTX, MyTraffic (that does something to AFCAD I think).

Rob Robson

Rob,

Far as I know .. just fake runways. So all rwys can be in use.

No harm.

Hi, Rob,

This is the crossing-runway technique to get aircraft to land on non-parallel runways, invented by Jim Vile.  Somehow you have a modified AFCAD somewhere.  Shouldn't do any harm except if you use FSX ATC you will hear and read the ATIS calling off many of the mythical runways.  Probably they are positioned at the North Pole or somewhere else far away from IAD.

Really :-)

Cool info!

I dont understand how it works, but that is ok.

Funny how we have to trick FSX to make things work....3m runways at the northpole to make KIAD work....haha

I read somewhere that AI traffic addons can change AFCAD files.

I have MyTraffic eeeh 2013 I think, so that probably did it.

Thx for that.

Rob Robson

Rob,

If you ever purchase KIAD scenery you should remove the KIAD afcads from your MyTraffic scenery folder.

Ok, I will try to remember that, thx.

I was actually looking for a KIAD addon.

I found Imagine Sim and Blueprint payware.

But I also found that the rwy layout, the ILS and other Navigation aid frequencies are still the same in the real world as the FSX 2006 database.

Those are the most important things for me, so an addon is not really required.

I do like nice buildings and stuff, but since I dont fly to KIAD verry often, it just has to work.

Besides, I have GEX/UTX around.

Anybody know if KIAD from Imagine Sim, included in Just Flights "World Airports4" is V1 or V2?

but the funny thing is this was a summer flight.

It says 14 degrees Celsius which is about 57 degree F. and 4 degrees Celsius dewpoint is equal to about 39 degrees F.  I live here and it doesn't get that cold in the summer so your weather program may be off a little or needs to be reprogrammed to show the average temps in the Washington DC area!  B)   I just checked my facilities data for my BluePrint KIAD and it shows the same runway ice data as you show.  I do not have MyTrafficX installed and use the default traffic.  Vonmar is correct with his statement but if you put the BluePrint scenery ABOVE MyTrafficX in the Scenery Library, this will trump out MyTraffic's AFCAD's.  That's why I had MyTrafficX located just above Propeller Objects in the Scenery Library.

Best regards,

Scenery developers also use that cross runway fake runway business.

I have the ice runways in the purchased Flightbeak Kaid also.

I had this priority (below propeller objects) and still had problems with the purchased KIAD .... you have to remove all blg's that have KIAD in the name from the MyTraffic (or other vendors folder) or there will be problems.

If you look in the MyTraffic scenery folder you will find three files that must be removed:

BR2_KiadXXX ....BGL

BR2_Kiadyyy>>bgl

BR2_Kiadzzz..bgl

I lost the real names of those 3 files in making (renameing) for my backup.

Could someone give the correct names and file size so I can corrct my backup?

Edit:

If the 3 files are not removed you will see portions of ols FSX scenery and airplanes parked inside terminals:

Also I did a screenshot of my Facilities info after payware KIAD and removing the three kiad bgl's from MyTraffic scenery folder

As shown, those files will be activated by MyTrafficX as they are simply .bgl files.  If you rename them they should be renamed to something like BR2_KIAD.orig or .old.  So they really were not deactivated as you thought.

Best regards,

In renaming them I lost the true name ... plus I moved them physically out of the MyTraffic folder .. cuz I should never need them again.

I need to know what their real names are so I can go to my backup folder and give them their real names back.

Could you possibly get their real names (or a screenshot) for me along with the file sizes so I know which name is for which file?

Best Regards,

I uninstalled MyTrafficX 5.4c a couple of days ago as I found that it is the cause of my StackHash/NTDLL crashes.  No crashes since removing MyTrafficX but have only flown 4 flights since removal.

All of the MyTrafficX files for the USA are named BR2_KIAD.bgl.  File sizes would not change by renaming.
