it is in the FS Gauges folder and will remain there!

The original download has the gauges in the panel folder, which is completely acceptable.

 

In fact, FS looks in the panel folder for gauges before it looks in the Gauges folder.

 

I typically put addon gauges in the panel folder for a couple reasons.

 

One, it reduces clutter in the Gauges folder, and two, if I decide to delete the plane, the gauges go with it.

 

If you put the updated gauge in ...|FS9\Gauges and the original is still in the panel folder, FS will still be using the original gauge.

 

Note also that if you have extracted the .cab file to a folder, and they are both in the same parent folder, FS will read the folder before it reads the .cab file.

 

The update works, there is nothing wrong with it. If you are still having problems then the cause is something specific to your setup.

Ah, I have learnt something after 66 years! I did not know that the 'panel' folder is searched first before the Gauges folder.

 

I will look at this more closely when the drive is returned. One question: If I delete the the Cab in question from the Gauges folder and leave the updated Cab in the Panel folder, will that suffice?

I will also add that I had a bit of time and installed a PA Airbus A380, the panel file in question - into that aircrafts panel folder, then the update CAB file. I started FS9, loaded the aircraft and everything I tried worked as it should.

 

It turns out that Joe and I share the same methods and thoughts as far as gauges go and thanks for sharing that Joe.

 

As suggested remove the CAB file in the gauges folder, place the update in your panel folder as you intend and let us know what happens

As the original topic of this post seems to have been resolved ,a question would the panel being discussed display correctly in my non wide screen monitor?

I do have a a fairly nice A380 panel but this one looks a tad nicer still.

Andy, the panel from my part is on a wide screen, so cannot help you. However, yes, it is one of the better looking freeware A-380 panel's out there, although one would have thought that more freeware authors would join in to create something even more sophisticated!

The screen shot above has left me scratching my head. The 'Zoomed Panel' seems to have part of the Wide Panel superimposed on it. Are you getting the same?

No I haven't seen anything like that when I had the zoomed panel showing. Window=nn or [Windownn] number priority messed up in the panel configuration? The frames you see are the LCDs.bmp displayed by Window06=LCD Overlay and  [Window06] in the panel.cfg so if you added any additional window to the panel you might have a error there. The LCD window definitely shouldn't show at the same time as the zoomed panel.

Hello Mel!

 

I have removed everything associated with this panel; removed the panel folder completely! The panel has now been reinstalled, but...

 

Having reinstalled the panel this is now a conundrum, as what should be - having the panel and gauges operating and visually correct - the 'Zoomed Panel' continues to have part of the Wide Panel superimposed on it, exactly as the above earlier image.

 

This was a straight forward installation based on what we have been discussing. The heading gauge and knob scenario is now not an issue.

 

The panel.cfg has not been altered and only overwritten with the update - hence the heading gauge is functioning as it is meant to.

 

Would like to think that this thread can be signed off soon!

Bit of a puzzler here, I can't recreate this display.

 

In your screenshot I see the FSNav window, which I don't have,

 

Is that set to be "always on top"?

 

What happens if you don't use FSNav?

 

Are you seeing this in a saved flight or are you starting a new flight?

If you are comfortable editing the XML files there is a fairly simple fix for this.

 

The file in question is in pnlsw.cab and is named Panelswitch.xml.

As Joe points out, the FSNav window showing is a / the only difference between your installation and mine. That makes it the likely culprit.

FSNav is there as and when I want to use it (shown by choice) and it is a module so does not interfere directly or indirectly.

 

This time it is a complete panel reinstall and FS9 was running without FSNav (my fault for saying it was the same image as above)!

The reason for me asking about FSNav is that if it is set to "always stay on top" that it might confuse Windows with regards to Windows draw order, whether it's being displayed or not.

 

For me, and most others I suspect, when I call up the zoom panel that frame you see is still being drawn behind the zoom panel. I can grab the zoom panel and pull it out of the way and see that frame.

 

My suggested edit will resolve this completely, I hope.
