February 7, 201412 yr Do the DataRef tweaks work with the Skymaxx clouds or are you using default clouds? Thank you, Tom No, it doesn't. I'm testing the clouds/plot_radius (I presently have a setting of 2.5000) Set the Skyc/abient_ratio_clear .450000 (this seems to extend the clouds coverage further out) Its working progress. Mik75; great shoots, splendid indeed Alan Twiggys AOPA Member "All Things Aviation"
February 7, 201412 yr What? datarefs work with raleigh tweaks, but not the cloud shadows. skymaxx replaces the clouds with 3d clouds which is why the dataref setting wont work on it, but the visibility stuff that raleigh tweaks is default still and raleigh tweaks do work with skymaxx. you just wont get cloud shadows.
February 7, 201412 yr I had to trade the god rays and SMP's really nice clouds for the cloud shadows, since they really only work with the default clouds. But to be honest, with the new look of the sim, I can happily live with that! Maybe SMP will have cloud shadows with a future update.
February 7, 201412 yr I also made the temporary trade of; sorry JohnMaxxx (not saying I'm abandoning SMP) but I hope you are reading and taking the necessary steps on your end, now! wouldn't that be something to behold in conjunction with SMP. These effects are simple breathtaking. Alan Twiggys AOPA Member "All Things Aviation"
February 7, 201412 yr And all this beauty is already there, within vanilla X-Plane! No need to buy REX, ORBX, etc. I am not saying that these products are bad, but XPX is really worth every cent, probably the best 69$ I've ever spend on a flight sim product!
February 7, 201412 yr Mik75, It gets you excited, doesn't it; knowing all these effects are lurking just beneath the surface of XPX, I am! Alan Twiggys AOPA Member "All Things Aviation"
February 7, 201412 yr Very nice effects, but what about the default clouds "white out" problem when flying through them. The default clouds "white out" totally ruins any immersion factor for me and would rather sacrifice the shadows. Laminar really needs to fix that issue. Laminar really needs to fix that issue. There is a simple tweak that can be done with the dataref editor. It's just changing a 1 to a zero (can't remember in which line, but it's the last one in the "clouds" art controls), and the white outs are gone! Simple as that! ;-)
February 13, 201412 yr Thanks a lot! Somehow, this post had originally 10 scrrenshots. But lately, they just disappear one by one (in all my posts and threads...)
February 13, 201412 yr wow nice shots, sadly the CCC 13.12 / 14.1 beta HDR is broken, and don't want to fall back to 13.9 as the performance in CCC 14.1 is good . damn AMD . I am planning to switch Nvidia just because this driver issues with AMD and they are worst on Linux. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

I never used AMD CPUs or GPUs since I am into flight simming, I've always been told that Intel and Nvidia were the way to go... ;-) But my current card isn't optimal too. It's a GTX 670 with 2GB which is more than enough for FSX, but XPX would benefit from having more VRAM.

Hey Mik75 , That did stand true for FSX until sometime back when AMD gave you the proper working drivers and since then I never had the cloud issue in FSX (the problem was with the clouds with AMD GPU and that was sorted out). But now for me Fsx is bye bye . I think there is a misunderstanding that XPX is heavily dependent on the GPU , your objects / LOD / traffic / roads / trees are CPU bound and the clouds / HDR and a few stuff is GPU bound. APOLOGIZE FELLOWS YOU MAY ALL KNOW THIS BUT JUST WANTED TO POST. It's at the developer blog of XPX where they have cleared defined the usage of the CPU and the GPU. XPX would benefit with more VRAM and also 8 GB RAM for the 64 bit. Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

And it looks so unbelievably good, especially over big cities! ;-) With my current settings, I get a good compromise between visual quality and performance. But every MB of the 2GB VRAM on my 670 is used and needed!
