February 26, 201412 yr Just retired and have been learning to fly with FSX....WOW what a wonderful hobby! Now the problem is that I want to learn all I can to make it more rewarding. But being a newbie with little experience in computers(other than searching the net)I an trying to find out where I might start. Are there any tutorials out there that will teach me how to find all my folders etc...Or am I doomed to only fly default aircraft??
February 26, 201412 yr If you would like to learn there are FSX built in tutorials. But if you would like to move up to a more sophisticated aircraft, I would go with the PMDG 737NGX. But be prepared to do a lot of reading of the manuals, especially how to set up the Flight Management Computer (FMC). At first it feels very overwhelming, but you'll pick it up with practice in no time. Rob Rob Marton
February 26, 201412 yr Moderator Sorry, but that is like telling a student driver to immediately go out and buy a Lotus, Ferrari, or Lamborghini... Start off mastering the C172 in all phases of flight first, using the Learning Center and perhaps a few of the relevant tutorial flights... ...then and only then stepping up to perhaps a GA twin aircraft, just like real student pilots. There is a dedicated forum here at AVSIM for new and refreshing student pilots: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/498-the-flight-school-hangar/ Fr. February 26, 201412 yr Sorry, I need to clarify. I gave two pieces of advice. One which was yours, to use the built in FSX tutorials. Second, that if he was looking to move up he should consider the NGX, but again I pointed out that a lot of studying would be required. I know someone who started out in FSX with the NGX their first week out, and he has a very thorough understanding of that aicraft for his needs as a simmer. But yes the Cessna would be a good start for the OP Rob Marton
February 26, 201412 yr Author You are 100% correct about flying the C172 only...that pretty much all i fly.Started trying other planes but soon realized that you have to crawl before you can walk even at my age....What would you suggest for my next venture???? Also interested in other single engine aircraft......Thank you for your comments and help....enjoying avsim to its fullest....
February 27, 201412 yr Moderator Well, if you'd like to dip your toes into a truly wonderful single engine payware aircraft, then you certainly would be hard pressed to find anything better than A2A's C172 Trainer. http://www.a2asimulations.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=56 Fr. February 27, 201412 yr A single-pilot Very Light Jet, maybe, with reduced system complexity? I'm thinking about the Feelthere Phenom 100, but you may want to wait for another one of those frequent Feelthere sales - 40% discount are achievable ... What happened to AVSIM
February 27, 201412 yr I only found these recently but a lot of people, both new and experienced, seem to have found the Flight School videos on this YouTube channel helpful. There are also videos to help get FSX running at it's best you your PC: https://www.youtube.com/user/FSXGenius Finlay Waller
February 27, 201412 yr Again, going to a VLJ as a next step is not a realistic recommendation. Real airline pilots initially learn to fly in small planes B) C172 until comfortable, next retractable gear (RealAir SF260 as an example), then twin engine (RealAir B60 Duke V2), then VLJ (Flight1 Mustang)... then big aircraft.. Just an example, but all great aircraft.. Bert
February 27, 201412 yr .. let me also add that the RealAir SF260 is highly rated, a blast to fly and a real steal at 9.95 Euros www.realairsimulations.com Bert

Once you get the hang of adding Airplanes to your 'hangar', here's a great freeware Piper PA-32T Lance II from FlightSim.com, that would be a great 'next step' from the C-172...
