Cannot open FS2Crew from CRT panel

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I just downloaded my FS2crew for my PMDG MD-11 FSX and followed the instruction exactly. Everything went well but when I try to open the the FS2crew main panel from the CRT screen nothing opens up. I applied all the updates and still cannot open the main screen to start FS2crew.   I am in 2D panel, tried both full and window screens and still nada! See please give me some advice.

Thanks,

Edward

It's very strange, mine works fine. Are you sure you clicked right mouse button? sorry for question, but you never know.

No one of FS2Crew windows? Main and second?

Yes I did right click and cannot open either window. The only window that opens up is the generic undock window menu?

Have you applied the modification to aircraft.cfg required during installation, this is automatic, but maybe you skip this step for any reason?

Try either to reinstall FS2Crew from scratch.

Check if FS2Crew is even on your MD11 panel.cfg file.

Open the panel.cfg with Notepad.

See if FS2Crew entries are on it.

If not, you probably have a write permission issue.

Re-install FS2Crew; run everything as an Admin.

Windows can "block" other programs, especially if they try to write inside the Program Files folder.

This is why it's good practice not to install FSX into Program Files, but rather some other location.

Hey guys,

I just checked and yes its there. And while checking this I found a file in my MD-11F folder for modifying  undockable panels. I believe this is what I must be missing but I have no clue about. Here it is

USE:
====
Installation of these files will allow you to undock the three left side DUs so
that you can arrange them on multiple monitors as desired.

CAUTIONS:
=========
While building the PMDG MD-11X, we came upon a limitation within FSX that prevents us
from using more than 64 panel entries in the panel.cfg.  In order to make these undockable
DISPLAY UNITS possible, we had to disable some low-usage panel items in order to make room
in the panel.cfg.

The disabled 2D panels are:
IRS
GEN BUS RESET
CARGO TEMP

Also, please note that if you have installed FS2CREW MD-11X EDITION, you will need to
update the panel config to include modifications made by the FS2Crew Installer.

Ok thanks for your help I believe we found the issue. But can someone explain how to modify and what file to use for a single screen monitor? There is a CFG file for either a normal panel or wide screen? I currently have a 40" Samsung tv as my monitor so should I use the widesceen?
Thanks again guys I think we are close to fixing this.

There is no such panel available in Views/Instrument Panel. I have this option for my Airbus and other Boeing 737ngx but not the MD-11?

Bryan,

Just came across this download on the PMDG site. Is this what I need to download?

MD-11X Panel.cfg Mods
Alternate Panel.cfg files to allow Captain's DUs to be undockable

Should I just uninstall my MD-11X and the FS2crew for the same and re install it again?

I will try that and let you know, Thanks

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello Bryan

Just re-installed my FS2Crew MD-11+the 3 Updates+a fresh Start Center+Voice Sets, re-booted, but like the OP, when right-clicking all I see is an empty Main Panel bar. Was working 6-7 months ago but what with being away from my PC for over 6 months and not going anywhere near the MD-11, only decided to get the MD-11 out of the hangar today. Any ideas? And yes, I have followed the above threads and yes, I do have the panel.cfg as it should be.

Rick Almeida

Just tried deleting fsx.cfg(after prudently making a back-up). No deal.

Hi Rick,

1. Do you see FS2Crew entries on the panel.cfg file for the MD-11?  Open the panel.cfg with notepad.

2. If not, run everything again but with "admin" right... Windows could be blocking our attempt to write to the panel.cfg file.

This is why it's a good idea to never install FSX into the Program Files folder.

Cheers,

Hi Bryan

  1. Not running FSX into Program Files folder. Have never done so. It is in a directory of its own on a SSD drive.
  2. No FS Captain, no Active Sky, etc,etc
  3. Here's what's in that Panel.cfg:

Hope you can nail this. Thanks.

Morning Rick,

Looking at the version number @ top of your panel cfg, it looks like you are using an old version of the MD11

Should be:
