February 9, 200521 yr I have been using FS2004 quite successfully for a long time. Out of the blue I am getting an blue-boxed ERROR message when flying (after about 20 minutes)that states : "Your computer has run out of available memory. FS will now exit. Check your disk....." . FS9 closes on clicking OK.Computer Description:ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Motherboard2 Gigabytes - DDR memoryATI Radeon X800XT - 256 Mbytes (Dual Monitors)3.2 GHz Intel Processor2 DVD Read Write DrivesFS9 Running Hyperthreaded on CPU02 - others running on CPU011 Hard Drive containing FS2004 partition of 99GBytes (60 used)and WindowsXP(2.0 Pack) and another partition of 49.4 GBytes (28.9 used) with WindowsXP. Both have identical drivers (ATI Radeon Catalyst 4.12). Both are booted independently through a Multi-Boot menu. All things worked perfectly and still do...with the exception of this memory error. I have followed the usage of memory using the task manager and there is no evidence that a shortage of memory exists (pagefile = 2Gigs; Processor Usage = 50% / On failure Actual Pagefile = 1.4 Gigs; Processor Usage = 55%.There was only one thing done prior to this behavior being notice - that was to install WeatherMaker Pro, which also required the installation of MS Network 1.1. The program was run with FS9 once and gave the error message. After discovering this behavior I uninstalled both applications, but the problem continued to persist. After uninstalling this new application I expanded the FS9 disk partition I had using Symantec's PartionMagic 8.0 (from 60 to 99 GBytes). I ran scandisk and defragmented both drives (on both partitions as mentioned above) and still the behavior persists. All other programs are running as normal without any memory failures - applications such as X-plane and Flight Gear. I dare say that the large number of add-ons (scenery, weather, aircraft etc. programs) I am using are also operating fine and did so before the change. Has anyone ever had this type of FS9 problem - running out of memory when there is apparently lots that has not been utilized ?...Would appreciate any advise that could sort this one out....Thanks,
February 9, 200521 yr Cant think of anything. I bet FS looks great on that system though. Ill look around and see if i cant find anything. If i can, ill let you know though! :) Chase Barnett
February 9, 200521 yr I have the same system except that I have an Intel P4 Processor (3.6GHz). Everything else the same. I had the "out of memory" error too after flying for about 30 minutes. It turned out to be a bad installation of my ATI drivers. I manually installed the drivers (w/o uninstalling the old ones). That is, I went into the device manager, got the properties of my video card drivers, and clicked on update. I told the wizard I would find the proper drivers and browsed to the ATI directory where my drivers were unzipped. It was amazing, the wizard didn't say these are already the latest drivers but went ahead and installed the drivers. The "out of memory" error has not occurred since then. Now you might think it was something else that caused the out of memory error. An addon or new scenery file. Before getting the out of memory error I had excellent frame rates, the device manager said the latest drivers were installed, and DirectX found no problems with my installation. Yet it WAS the video card drivers that caused the problem. I discovered the video card problem by uninstalling FS9 and reinstalling (yuck!). I also installed the FS9 upgrade. I started FS9 with the basic setup with no addons or new aircraft installed. The problem occurred again. This time I knew it wasn't FS9 but a hardware problem. By accident, I decided to manually install the ATI drivers instead of uninstalling and reinstalling using the ATI setup program. I'm sure there was a corrupted registry entry that caused the problem but I can't be sure. Manually installing fixed the registry and I was flying again w/o a problem. Before you ask, I did follow the directions provided by ATI on the proper method of uninstalling the old drivers and reinstalling the new ones. I have no anti-virus program running in the background when installing anything. So manually reinstall your ATI drivers and I'm sure your problem will go away. Hope this fix works for you.Jim
February 9, 200521 yr I got the same error only when running real world weather (ActiveSky). I don't beleive it's ActiveSky though as my frames drop to single digits running real weather generated by FS alone. I was going to try just running real FS weather and see what happens. The out of memory error was a system message though not an FS one.I'm really confused as to why my nuclear powerplant of a computer can't run real world weather. I've tried almost all different scenarios and can't find the solution. I've posted before but no one can really pin point the problem. It's not a matter of tweaking either, it's an actual drop in frames from my locked at 30 down the about 6.I'm really baffled at this point. February 9, 200521 yr I have had that out of memory problem too maybe 2 or 3 times. P4 3.0 ghz, 1 gig ram, ATI 9800 128MB. I was flying the Citation X. No weather addons. I think it is an ATI problem. Haven't had it lately, don't know why. I always use Auto Start.
February 9, 200521 yr Do you have any landclass installed? If so, do you have any texture folders inside the landclass folder? FS9 can get a huge memory leak problem if this is the case, as it tries to read textures that are not there, and not necessary, as Landclass will use FS9 stock textures anyway. So check any Landclass folders for a texture folder, and remove it( to a safe place to test) and see if you still have the problem.Hope this helps,
February 9, 200521 yr Hmmm..I do infact. I'll try that hint next time. Thanks. Jeff D. Nielsen (KMCI) https://www.twitch.tv/pilotskcx https://discord.io/MaxDutyDay VENGEANCE a8200 Gaming PC: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, 4TB (2TB/2TB) M.2 SSD, Win11 Pro
February 9, 200521 yr Well.. No other textures inside any of those folders though. I have the FSG stuff. All seems fine.I would like to solve the WX problem as well. Jeff D. February 9, 200521 yr I had that happen on mine machine some time ago, only task manager showed a steady and relentless decreasing in the amount of available physical memory. Is TM showing the same on yours--doesn't sound like it. It would finally end up with the out of mem error and would shut down FS9, but it was not the BSOD.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. February 9, 200521 yr You have to remove the empty Texture folder. FS9 will try to search through it and that can cause the memory drain. You should ONLY have a Scenery folder inside Landclass installations.
February 9, 200521 yr I had FS running in full screen. I would imagine the TM did show though at that point.I'll check for any empty texture directories again. I didn't see any. I'm pretty sure the FSG stuff is just one big BGL, if I remember right. Jeff D. February 10, 200521 yr I have tried re-installing the drivers as Firehawk42 suggested. I installed three different driver versions and corresponding ATI catalysts manually with no improvement. Thanks for the suggestion.I re-installed the drivers package that came with the ATI X800XT Radeon and left it as is. After reading several other responses, I started to think about the comments on scenery. I checked for misplaced LandClass files in Texture folders and none were found. I did run FS9 on a flight from CYYZ to KBUF (which was giving me the error message after 15 minutes). I then ran a flight from KSFO to KLAX and low and behold, the error did not occur. I am now removing and re-installing each add-on sceneries related to the flight path that was installed to determine if the error can be removed. It is obviously related to the flight which causes the FS9 error to occur. Will post the results after completing...Hopefully this will correct the situation. In reference to the comment by Trans 27 Pilot Chase - yes it is. I always had frame rate problems because of the number of addons I use - using both WideFS and FS9 programs (1280x1024x32). Once I bought the graphics card it solved this completely. I now run with all setting in FS9 maxed out with the exception of Mip Mapping Quality, which is set to 4. I use Weather Centre Expert version 2.3.1.2 with the tracking panel (now extinct). Thanks again for all your suggestions.
February 10, 200521 yr I'm just curious but what PCI latency are you using with your ATI X800XT Radeon card?
February 10, 200521 yr In addition to "all of the above..." Many programs will search for something for a limited time, then it gives an error message, if it does not find it ... within that time. Have seen somewhere that you can set the search time longer.... but forget where it may be.Many problems with W98 or XP and XP with SP1,2 because the Registry is filled with Invalid links. It takes time going through all the invalid links searching, so can cause problems for this reason.Recommendations for better operation or to stop errors or even a CTD of your system:If using W98, ME, et.al.Upgrade to XP it will eliminate many "Errors". Your entire system will operate much better, and faster.IF you are using XP, without SP1 and SP2, installing it will boost _framerate_ and make other improvements. The FS was created with XP, and the FS patch was undoubtedly created, with SP2 installed. If not using SP2, by all means upgrade, there are too many reasons to do so, to repeat here. Each time you _delete_ something from your HD, it can leave an invalid links. Even something as simple as deleting a picture you no longer want. Over time, invalid registry entries can slow your system to a crawl, if FS pauses too long, it errors. Software demo's or payware which give you a free trial, leave links in the registry, to prevent you from using it over, and over. They also may leave folders with junk in them, which you need to remove manually. You can get RegCleaner free, I've used it with W98, ME, XP.You might search for: RegCleaner 4.2 by Jouni Vuorio. After installing...RegCleaner Set the "Options, Registry Cleanup, Method" to Automatic. Then, click on "Tools, Registry Cleanup, Do them all." It will safely clean your registry, even if you know nothing about it.This will delete all _invalid_ registry keys, etc. First time it ran on my system, it deleted 287! One person I told about cleaning the registry, said it deleted 1643 invalid registry keys, and his system ran like it did brand new.HOWEVER... both my wife's and my computer have been slowing down drastically over the past year, and even have had a few "blue screen errors." Pages which used to load in 4-5 seconds, have been taking 16-20 on DSL!A friend told me to check this link for a better program http://www.registryfix.com/ Decided to try it. It found 275 errors which the above programs have _never_ found. It Fixed 37 which helped, to fix the rest you need a registered copy, which costs $29.95 . . . .. Decided to buy it, ran it to delete the others, and rebooted. Now all webpages which Ive tried, load in _one_second_ or less! Unlike the other programs, it searches the entire drive for orphaned files or links and missing shortcuts, et. al.I'd removed norton and some other programs _months_ ago, it found six links still existing to norton. If not using Ad-aware, and Spybot, (freeware) its a good idea to begin. They can get rid of a LOT of programs which tell companies where you are surfing, and more. Each time they do, it uses bandwidth. If there are hundreds of them on your system, the time they use is significant. Cleaning your Registry and getting rid of Spyware, makes your operating system work the way it should. There are so many causes of problems, in FS which are caused from invalid links in the Registry, its not possible to list all of them. Every time I have a problem with the FS, _first_ thing I do is clean the system. As it is the easiest to use, and Fast,I highly recommend you at least check out the demo at: http://www.registryfix.com/ Bob
