February 11, 200521 yr I just checked TAF Processing in Active Sky. I've been flying without it, and now I want to see if there is any difference with it on. What does it do, and does it affect framerates? I love this weather program, but I can't ever remember any discussion about the pros and cons of TAF Processing.
February 11, 200521 yr There is a LOT of info on TAF processing on the ActiveSky forum. Better start using this search button....Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
February 11, 200521 yr Yep, and there is also a section on "Dynamic Weather and TAF Processing" in the AS2004 documentation.
February 12, 200521 yr Thanks.I went to the manual and found what I was looking for. Sorry for bothering everyone here.

February 12, 200521 yr Stan,Not a bother, just wanted to point you to the explanation in the documentation :-)
February 12, 200521 yr >You didn't bother anyone, please don't feel like you did.I'm sure he feels like he did, after reading Michal's reply.
February 12, 200521 yr Yep, it's scarey asking questions in these forums anymore. Seems like folks are just waiting for their next victim. No offense to Michal, his post was probably genuine. It's just not as friendly as it used to be.I remember asking "stupid newbie questions" in the old Project Freeware forum a few years ago. The answers, as redundant as could be, were always polite and helpful. It was truly a a great hobby.
February 12, 200521 yr I think it's the tone of the reply that gives the impression that you are being lectured. You can say the same thing two different way's. 1. You "better" search for the information you want at such and such a place, next time. 2. It might be a good idea to try looking for the information at such and such place. Which sounds more friendly?
February 12, 200521 yr if pointing someone to existing sources for information is now considered a scare tactic, what's the use in retaining information at all?
February 12, 200521 yr Hi all,I think that we shouldn't underestimate the value of adding a smile when posting a very short answer :) Short answers are easily interpreted as rude. In real life we smile when we give short friendly answers. In posts we should allways attach a smiley. It's that easy, believe me ;-) Have a nice day all of youUlf B
February 12, 200521 yr No offense taken. According to the manual, TAF makes weather more realistic. If that were the case, I wondered why the author had it unchecked in the default position. I then assumed ( and correctly, I think) that it required more processing power and thus would affect performance. I guess I was wondering if other forum members found TAF to be more of a bother than what it was worth. I read the Active Sky forum and didn't see much discussion on the pros and cons of the TAF application.
February 12, 200521 yr Good question Stan,I have been wondering also....anybody?Bill Worth "A good landing is one you can walk away from. An excellent landing is one you can taxi away from." Bill in Colorado: Retired Comm: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument CFI: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument
February 12, 200521 yr Hi All,I've been watching this thread from the beginning and some of the "not so helpful" comments have been noted. So let's focus on the question at hand and have fun!First let's review briefly what a TAF is. Think of a TAF as a report of possible future conditions at a weather station. Usually they look forward to conditions 24-36 hours in advance. They try to show how the weather may be headed, either good or bad.Second, how/when does Active Sky use a TAF? In Offline Mode, AS uses a TAF when the TAF is closer to the FS time then the METAR time. In Online Mode a TAF could be used when a station does not report or when the METAR data is older than the TAF.Finally, there is no additional processing power used or performance issues when using TAFs. In fact the general user will never notice when the TAF is being used. At this time we recommend that TAF processing be checked On, unless using VATSIM where it will automatically be checked Off.I hope this generally answers users questions!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
