Flicker/flashing Scenery And Clouds

Featured Replies

Ok i'm experiencing flicker flashing scenery on the ground and the clouds does anyone know why this is happening? If you need to know my specs etc i'll post it up thanks :)

Vernon Howells

Specs would be handy but typical causes include running with sliders set too far to the right or bufferpools=0

Are you running dx9 or dx10?

You could also try adjusting the amount of AA and AF you are using.

I think its dx10 buddy will check tonight! Is the AA and AF in FSX settings?

Vernon Howells

If you don't know, then I suspect it's dx9 - but if you are running dx10 without the fixer, then that may well be causing your problems.

With regard to AA and AF (antialiasing and anisotropic filtering), then you are best to disable both in FSX and enable in your graphics card settings - as you have NVidia, download NVidia inspector as this does the job much better).

There are a few good setup guides for fsx - google "FSX Word Not Allowed guide" or have a read of NickN's guides over at Simaviation.  Also, take a look at this:

Hi how will i check what DX i have? I've got NVidia inspector and done the settings plus NickN's guide. Will i disable AA and AF in fsx then?

Vernon Howells

Before getting too involved, try turning off 'ground shadows' in FSX and see if that helps

I am not sure this will help, it is just a suggestion based on a few others I know that had the flickering problem. You may indeed need to do some other 'tweaking' if this doesnt help, but its an easy thing to check before getting too involved

got a pict of the demon lol

it only flashes when i move about quite fast?

So you see the texture flash for a second, then it goes back to normal?  I get this too.  I think it is just my computer not being able to render textures quite fast enough.  My computer is old, so I'm sure I could solve this issue by scaling back my graphics settings and autogen, perhaps the AI traffic, but I like the level of detail I currently enjoy, so I learned to live with the occasional texture flash.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

After seeing your screen shot, your issue isnt going to get fixed by my shadow suggestion, its different from what I thought it was. You definatly have a 'setting' problem, but what it is I dont have a clue. Usually things like that are memory related but your system should be handling FSX fine.
