February 12, 200521 yr I have the GoFlight stuff but frankly I am not happy with the quality of the units. GF's suport is o.k. ut I had too many defetive and faulty units to recommend them. Knobs not working, LED's dying, units whih were DOD, that kinda stuff. And the problems still go on.I am a power user though, working with them every day.If I had to make the decision again I would say these guys offer a good value for money: http://sim.itra.de/default_en.htmAlex
February 12, 200521 yr Thanks Alex.. I'll check that out.BTW.. I have to add to my original post.WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS DO if you were spending $500-1000 for avionics? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

February 12, 200521 yr I have to add another equivalent of USD 15000 to that USD 1000 to get me an PPL license, and that is just VFR.... Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
February 12, 200521 yr Author Hi Manny,I have been using the ACP Compact USB for about a year now and have been very happy with the quality of the unit. It does exactly what you want it to and that is give you knobs to turn and a real gear and flap lever to move. For almost all aircraft I don't have to use the mouse at all which makes for much better cockpit immersion and realism. For the price it is the best value for a home simmer.Let us know what you do get :)Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
February 12, 200521 yr You could be well on your way to a real PPL for $1000... Ryan Maziarz (KTUS)I already am. and it cost me around $7000 to get it. I am a PP-ASEL, with Tail wheel, Complex and HP endorsements.2 hours short of my Multi, and Stage 1 completed for my IFR.:) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

The ActivePanel-Navstackhttp://www.sim.itra.de/default_en.htmBrowse the cataloge page for "ActivePanel-Navstack"It comes to $990 for this package. The ACP is around $450 bucks. You can see all the frequencies on the stack. What do you think? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 12, 200521 yr I would be careful buying the SimKits radio stack at $4,000 USD. I've purchased it and I've had too many problems.1.) Autopilot module was broken when I got it. They misaligned a connector inside of it and caused 2 pins to not connect while the other connectors were not in the right slots. I took it upon myself to repair it because I did not want to pay an additional $100 USD for shipping to have it RMA to the Netherlands.2.) Now my radio stack control board is bad. It's causing my Transponder to malfunction where the selector knob is in the wrong place and my audio panel is completely inoperative. I have no choice but to send it back and pay for the outbound shipping at $100 USD, meanwhile I'll be without a radio stack for who knows how long, at least one week with shipping to and from. I figure 3 days to and from there, plus the testing and turn-around time to get it replaced, so my guess is possibly 2 weeks? A $20,000+ simulator down for 2 weeks. That sucks!3.) The radio stack control board ships with a jumper across the lighting pins. This causes the LCD to be extremly bright orange. I had to put a potentiometer on it to regulate the lighting myself. The quality is much different than the 3d Rendered graphics on their site.My transponder has the VFR / CLR buttons and they never worked properly. I have to press CLR to go back to VFR (1200). The VFR button doesn't do anything.Just sharing my experiences. Overall, it's a neat radio stack, and it's a replica of the Bendix / King. It has dual NAV/COM panels, DME, Autopilot and the works. I just wish it was better quality and worked properly for the price I paid.
February 12, 200521 yr Eric,Sorry to hear about that radio.. Oh yeah... for $4000 I would expect it to work or they should atleast take it back for a full refund. #### yeah.BTW.. Eric, I love your webpage. What projector/model are you using? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 12, 200521 yr Hi Manny,It's an Epson 81P which works great and cost much less than the NEC models I was looking at. More info: http://www.cessnasim.com/index.php?/archiv...n-the-way!.html
February 12, 200521 yr >Hi Manny,>>...... For the price it>is the best value for a home simmer.>>Let us know what you do get :)>>ZaneZane, meaning to ask you.how do you adjust the OBS for VOR1 and VOR2 settings? do you use the knob of the ACP Compact or do you use something else for that?and other rotary requirements... you know for Altimeter settings... DG etc. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 13, 200521 yr Author Hi Manny,That Navstack looks pretty neat and has the LEDs, probably one of the cheapest prices for a radio unit with them. Would love to hear some reports from someone that uses it though.ZanePS. That activepanel is what really caught my eye, especially for the twin. February 13, 200521 yr Author Hi Manny,The knob below the two radios next to the transponder buttons is for VOR1/VOR2 depending on the switch position. The three knobs below that are for the ADF tuning in position 1, in position 2 they are for heading, altimeter and DG respectively. You get used to switching between set 1 and 2 quickly and I now just reach for the button/knob/whatever :) without looking.Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
February 13, 200521 yr Sorry to hear you've had a bad go with GoFlight but that surprises me. I've been a GoFlight user almost since day one. I have an 8 module rig now and have never had a single problem. The only issue with ALL external units is that you will never get 100% compatibility with anything other than default aircraft. For the developers to get their machines to do what they to, they have to make all sorts of customized tweaks and many of them accomplish the same task in different ways so its impossible for compatibility to happen. You can get very close in most cases with key mapping but if a given cockpit function doesn't have an associated key stroke then mapping obviously won't work.Still, I wouldn't be without my GoFlight stack...it's just a bummer to have to click the mouse once in a while. But check out the GoFlight forum. I don't think you'll find too many gripes similar to Alex's unfortunate bad luck.Regards,Jim
