Just a simple question on the DX10 fixer

Featured Replies

Hello DX10 fans,

what do I have to do if I would like to try out DX10? Get Steve's fixer, and flag the DX10 in FSX? Is it correct?

My add ons are: GEX, UTX, ASN, REX for runway lights, FEX for clouds at 1024, and a small number of add on airports, that's it. I almost forget: I fly pretty much PMDG liners.

Any suggestion will be much appreciated, as I know pretty much nothing about this,

Enrico

Enrico, I have more or less the same add on's  as you and have been on DX10 for some time. I purchased Steve's fixer a few weeks ago and it has done all it claimed to do. So my advice is to go for it.

Thanks toriu,

good to know! I was hoping for something like this, as I do have neither the time nor the desire to spend days tweaking the config file or else...I'll report back,

Enrico

I have the same Q as enricho. Is it really just a case of running Steve's DX10 Fixer program and the going into the sim and checking the DX10 box?

Are there not many more tweaks, hot fixes to various sceneries that need to be applied also?

Any chance there can be a "Idiots Guide to going DX10" posted here? Something that covers all the known hiccups and solutions that have been encountered by those pioneers?

You can enable/disable DX10 within the DX10 Fixer Program.  I would enable it before you install the DX10 Fixer by starting up FSX, going to the settings page and enabling DX10 Preview.  Shutdown fsx and install Steve's DX10 Fixer.

Steve's DX10 Fixer Forum is hosted here on AVSIM.  It's best you go to that forum and ask your question about an "idiot's guide".  The manual that comes with the DX10 Fixer is very comprehensive.  There once was a DX10 guide here but it was for the freeware version of Steve's DX10 fixer.  There are no special tweaks you need to run DX10 (in fact many use no tweaks).  If you want to know how to configure FSX/DX10 Preview w/o the fixer, then you should look at the AVSIM FSX Guide located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots.

OK, Thanks Jim!

I have posed the question over there. I have purchased the Fixer, so may as well use it. I think I have to first instal the Fixer before I can access the user manual. Is the manual available to download and view as a link somewhere? There is also reference to a good guide by Paul J.

That's the guide I was talking about.  It is no longer on the AVSIM website as the link to the guide went dead.  It was used for configuring the freeware version of DX10 Fixer and everything has been incorporated in the commercial product as PaulJ was one of the beta testers for the product.  What he was recommending in the manual will now show up in one of the switches in the payware version.

Hello,

as promised, I am back with my feedback on the fixer. The good news: the tutorial that comes with the fixer was very clear and allowed me to properly configure my FSX, I can see everything with no issues, even when it comes to airports that are not in DX10, such as EHAM from Aerosoft.

The bad news: I get a lot of shimmering. The NGX cockpit shimmers a lot, and this problem is gone once I switch back to DX9. Is it a common problem, or is it just me? Maybe someone here has a solution to this. I tried to run the sim in trilinear, Antialiasing, Anisotropic, nothing, the shimmering is still there, and it is very annoying...so for now I decided to switch back to DX9, where they way I set my rig through Nvidia inspector, everything is spot on. If someone has a solution to this, please let me know, apart from the shimmering issue, the look of FSX in DX10 is far superior, and it is a pity I had to reverse back to DX9...

Enrico

Hi Enrico!

for the shimmering, you have to set the Supersampling according with the setting you have in the fixer.

So, if 4x is used you have to set 4xsgss in nvidia inspector. The only way to get rid of the shimmering is the supersampling in inspector!

You can take a look on the various setting done by the users here on the forum!

I too had a lot of shimmering when I first went to DX10 (and I came from P3D v1.4).  However, I looked at other people's settings and followed Paul J's manual to the letter, played a little with Nvidia Inspector and solved the problem.  Ok it isn't 100% perfect but you have to look really hard to detect any slight shimmering.  But the advantages of DX10 outweigh this.

Hope you can get it sorted.

Best wishes

Hello guys,

I appreciate your support! I'll do that, match the sumpersampling in both the fixer and the Nvidia inspector, let's see if I can get rid of that shimmering...thanks a lot to both of you!

Hi Pete, sorry for asking: what is Paul's manual? Did you mean Steve's manual?

Enrico

Hi Enrico
