May 2, 201412 yr I thought to give x-plane 10 a shot, but I'm having some problems getting my controls to work. For starts I've got problems with the following functions: -I cant find Pan view and pan reset -I cant find how to move panel up/down/left/right/backwards/forward -Zoom in/out only zooms the outside view while I'm in the cockpit and I cant seem to find how to zoom inside the cockpit. -I cant find the axis-function for rudder movement -My Saitek panels aren't working at all -I don't get anything to set up the range numbers of the axis-controls. -I cant find how to open a second window for the monitor on my hardware panel, to project the 'basic 6'-part of the virtual panel -I cant find how to cycle through the camera views I would appreciate it if someone could help me out here Cheers! May 2, 201412 yr hi there :-) So well, have fun with XP :-) I firstly suggest you to read around, and try things out. It's like buying a new car, you can't just stay in front and asking help around because the button is no more the same than you last car :-) No offense of course, but the first thing to do is some tryouts. Also, if i'd take the time, I couldn't even imagine where to start with you, as you just say you can't find things... what to say oO anyone? May 2, 201412 yr Author That's what I'm trying to do, look around and wing around a bit, see how things work. But I'm getting stuck because I cant find some basic functions to do that. For instance, I come in game in a Boeing and I only see a small part of the panel, so I have to setup the pan-axis of my controller to move my view around and I cant find where to set up that controller, like in which menu and which page. And alongside that function, the pan reset, which flips your view back to straight forward. Also to center my view over the pilot position of the panel and be able to focus on parts of the panel, I need to be able to move my viewpoint left/right/up/down/backward/forward and of course be able to zoom-in/out, and I've been looking over the key assignments and I cant find those commands. To wing around a bit, I'm going to need my basic flight controls and I have been able to find all, except for the rudder. When you are in the calibration page, you can see one of the bars go left to right when you move a controller axis and you have to assign a function to them. In that list is no function called rudder, so I cant connect the aircrafts rudder to my controller. And to be able to check out scenery, I always pick a camera view looking over the back of the aircraft, so I have to be able to switch camera from inside to outside and since I have my keyboard in such position that I cant constantly use it from the corner of my eye, I need to switch inside view to outside view with a switch on my yoke and also here and I cant find the function in the menus. I'm used to look for next/prev camera view, but that isn't there and I cant find anything that I can connect to that function in some way. So I was hoping someone could point out in which menus I have to look, or for what name I have to look, so I can setup the basic controls I'm going to need to look around. Cheers! Maarten
May 2, 201412 yr Moderator In that list is no function called rudder, so I cant connect the aircrafts rudder to my controller. It's called the "Yaw" axis in X-Plane and not rudder, so that should help there. Also to center my view over the pilot position of the panel and be able to focus on parts of the panel, I need to be able to move my viewpoint left/right/up/down/backward/forward and of course be able to zoom-in/out, and I've been looking over the key assignments and I cant find those commands. Press Shift-9 to go to mouse-look mode, and the you can use the mouse wheel or +/- keys to zoom in and out, and the arrow keys to move the view point left and right. You can also save your views. I suggest you go into the keyboard menu and have a look through all the keyboard shortcuts and get familiar with them.
May 2, 201412 yr -I cant find how to open a second window for the monitor on my hardware panel, to project the 'basic 6'-part of the virtual panel This is not supported by X-Plane... unfortunately, you cannot undock windows and move them to different monitors. X-Plane can only run in "one" window. That one window can span across multiple displays if you had a wrap-around set of monitors, but you cannot break off portions and views and independently place them on different displays. -Greg

Shift 4 for outside view, then use your mouse to look around Use the angle braket keys to move foward and backwards(<,>) You are def going to want to try the real terra haze and aerosoft sky tools. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=22387 AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. May 3, 201412 yr Hi Demious Pan View and Pan reset Under SETTINGS / JOYSTICK and EQUIPMENT / BUTTONS BASIC In the second column you will see the command VIEW: 3-D COCKPIT COMMAND-LOOK. This command sets the view to the "Virtual Cockpit" I find the sequence of assigning buttons in X-plane a little Counter-intuitive so I will briefly explain. First press the button on the controller, then select the command you wish to assign the button to. Note that the majority of the commands described below will not work in the "default" 2-D view, but will work well in most others. Here in the far right column of commands you will find GENERAL COMMAND: TILT UP, GENERAL COMMAND: TILT DOWN, GENERAL COMMAND: PAN LEFT and GENERAL COMMAND PAN RIGHT. This commands will rotate your view in the direction described . Assign these commands to your hat switch to pan your view. If you find this pans your view a little too slowly, there is an additional set of commands bearing the same names but with the addition of FAST. This next part is a little clumsy.... There is no "Pan View reset" command , However in the second column you will see the command VIEW: FWD WITH PANEL. This will snap your view back to center looking forward. Unfortunately, this command will take you out of the Virtual cockpit and into the 2D cockpit, so from there you need to go back to the virtual cockpit. I have buttons assigned to both commands so it's not too bad. Perhaps, somebody out there has a slicker way of doing this. Generally speaking I find MOUSE View much better for panning around the cockpit. Ensure you are in the "Virtual Cockpit". Double Click the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON, this will activate the mouse view, a single RIGHT CLICK will deactivate it. Move the mouse to pan around, the SCROLL WHEEL will zoom your view. Controls can be manipulated whilst in MOUSE VIEW but can be awkward. I move into and out of MOUSE VIEW constantly. Incidentally, the SCROLL WHEEL will zoom in any view including the default 2-D. Moving Panel up, Down, Left, Right, Backwards, Forwards Under SETTINGS / JOYSTICK and EQUIPMENT / BUTTONS BASIC again in the far right column you will see the commands GENERAL COMMAND LEFT, GENERAL COMMAND RIGHT etc.. These commands will move your " EYEPOINT" in FSX parlance, in the direction described. There is also the FAST variant of these commands. ( I use these commands to "walk around the aircraft, doing preflight " ) Again, no reset option per see, use the clumsy workaround. Zooming your view under SETTINGS / JOYSTICK and EQUIPMENT / BUTTONS BASIC Far Right Column of commands, GENERAL COMMAND: ZOOM IN and GENERAL COMMAND: ZOOM OUT. These commands zoom your view both inside and outside of the cockpit. Axis for Rudder - covered in post #4 Saitek Panels - Sorry, I don't have these so can't help with this Range numbers of the axis controls Try SETTINGS / JOYSTICK and EQUIPMENT / NULLZONE Second Windows - Covered in Post #5 Cycle thru Views As far as I'm aware, there is no command for this. For exterior view, I generally used the VIEW: CIRCLE command, SETTINGS / JOYSTICK and EQUIPMENT / BUTTONS BASIC. or as previously pointed out use the Shift 4 combination. This will give you and exterior view of your aircraft and surroundings. The same commands for shifting your view in the cockpit can be used here as well. Using the GENERAL COMMAND; BACKWARD, for example, you can shift your eye point back as far as you like, giving you a great view of your surroundings. This view is "Tied" to your aircraft. To "untie" to view, press the C key ( VIEW: FREE CAMERA ) and you can move you view.... well, freely. Of course, to get back into the cockpit, use VIEW: 3-D COCKPIT COMMAND-LOOK Hope this helps

May 3, 201412 yr Great explanation ! Somebody should make it a sticky for the newbies... I think the information is more appropriate for the X-Plane Tips and Tricks Forum. Recommend James Britnell start a new topic in the Tips and Tricks forum, and post the information there. I could split the post off to the Tips and Tricks Forum but he references other posts in this topic and that would not be possible.
