February 17, 200521 yr Well!!!!!!!If you have visited the Homepage of Avsim in the past few minutes you probably have seen the BANNER that WILCO is taking on the Airbus 380 project.I dont want to sound dissapointed but!!!!!!!.....I would have rather had PMDG or PSS take on this BIG BIRD.Anyone have further comments.
February 17, 200521 yr If it's going to be done like CRJ, ERJ (I know that Feelthere created those two aircrafts) then I will buy it for sure.:-jumpy But Feelthere is not working on this one, so we'll wait and see.
February 17, 200521 yr I couldn't agree with you more, I'd rather see it done either by PMDG or Dreamfleet/Flight 1. However being American based developers, I think Airbus are less willing to supply the required data (or so I've heard in the past).Looking at the screenshots (OK they are probably early developmental shots) but they just don't cut it. It looks blocky and plain, where-as the early shots of the PMDG 747 looked smooth, lifelike and generaly more convincing. Alaister Kay
February 17, 200521 yr Yes - I wonder who is actually creating the product? None of the popular payware developers that I am aware of. Maybe a new kid on the block?I'd be a bit wary of this one. Let's see what actually gets released. Graeme Butler
February 17, 200521 yr I hope it's better than the A320 they had. That was unflyable on my system even after the patch. Maybe they're collaborating with Abacus on this one, heaven help us.Sincerely,Hans Groenewold
February 17, 200521 yr Well may be a case of credibility. I wonder what data Wilco and other base their A380 from. It
February 18, 200521 yr Looking at the new VC screenshots, you can plainly see that one of the textures on the back of the co-pilots' chair is on backwards..perhaps they ARE working with Abacus!!!I know it's early days yet, but the screenie looks fairly complete, so it wouldn't surprise me to see little errors like this stay uncorrected!!
February 18, 200521 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Even Boeing builds planes entirely on computer nowadays before the first piece of metal gets snipped. (I.E. 777) Digital wind tunnels are within 4% accuracy so a realistic A-380 flight model is possible depending on access granted the developer. Nowadays simulators are used extensively in aircraft development, why not a version for PC before the plane leaves the ground? I agree quality is a big factor but that is a factor for a Wright Brother's aircraft just as much.Best Regards, Donny:-wave
February 18, 200521 yr Maybe they're working with "perfect" flight. After all, that guy's an A380 specialist, having had one for sale for over a year now :-lol
February 18, 200521 yr "Even Boeing builds planes entirely on computer nowadays before the first piece of metal gets snipped"Not strictly true, I have seen the 7E7 getting wind tunnel tested with a scale model that cost $3million!!!.Dan.
February 18, 200521 yr Correct. And they're constructing fullsize mockups of aircraft components (fuselage and wing sections) for static testing. The data collected is fed back into the computers and used to refine and crosscheck the models. Effectively what the computers do is take over the role of the large scale calculations done by hand previously. It reduces the time and risk involved but does not replace testing the real thing. Unless and until it flies noone will know the flight characteristics, though the models can give a pretty decent approximation usually for standard handling over good parts of the flight envelope.
February 18, 200521 yr I wonder how realistic the experience can be with FBW and it's envelope protections not properly simulated... I've read that all airbus aircraft have more or less the same feel to them. At least that what's airbus is aiming for. It keeps conversion training time low. They may will "simulate" A330 flight characteristics on the A380, heck, that's what flybywire is all about!Flying a A318 or a A380 it's all the same!:-lolWould be nice if a actual airbus pilot could comment on that.cheers,Claudio
February 18, 200521 yr For whatever it is worth, until we get something better the PSS 340 panel works well on the freeware contribution.Happy flying:RTH
February 18, 200521 yr Author >Maybe they're working with "perfect" flight.>After all, that guy's an A380 specialist, having had one for sale >for over a year now :-lol :-lol :-lol Wolfgang
February 18, 200521 yr Author ATR is allied with Airbus and they choose an American company to develope their 72.So I think, that's not the reason. Wolfgang
