Simple fix for bouncing on landing

Featured Replies

So I have been having an issue with the 777 bouncing on touchdown. Video example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLD7pxmjeEU?t=10m55s

Happens at: 11:09, 11:12, 11:23

Irrespective of how smooth my touchdown is, I will be gently lowering the nose on rollout and the whole plane will bounce, sometimes a foot or two into the air, sometimes more than once. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so this was really bothering me. Fix below:

Go into your aircraft.cfg, look under [contact_points]. Find this line:

static_cg_height=13.060

Now change it to this:

static_cg_height=13.660

You can undo it at any time. Hopefully this will help someone.

If this issue is not related to scenery, File a support ticket, so the team can check this out and release the fix in SP1.

It is indeed, not a scenery problem. Happens at every airport addon or default. I will file a support ticket, thanks !  ^_^

Thank you Kylan, this has been a real immersion killer for me!  Btw, do you use very high resolution mesh? I always thought that was the cause of my issue with the 777.

Cant wait to the test this out! Cheers

Same for me, it was very annoying.

I do not use any 3rd party mesh. Only addon airports.

Hello Kylan,  I tried your suggestion in aircraft.cfg, but my setting was 11.90 NOT 13.060 plus I do not get bouncing on my landings.

Thanks Kylan,

Just tested it and it works perfectly.

Looks like AES changes it too But to the original value, Weird But only on the 77F. 77L not altered by AES.

//AES Orgvalue:static_pitch=-0.465
static_pitch=-.465
//AES Orgvalue:static_cg_height=13.060
static_cg_height=13.06

There is some info in the PMDG777 intro guide that the airplane migh bounce when mesh detall is set too high. I have had this bouncing while sitting at the gate and it stopped with changing the mesh resolution.

I think you guys should try that first before changing contact points!

It does say in the 777 introduction that it might happen if you have mesh resolution set to less than 10m. For me it does. Some sceneries really require that you have it set to 5m or even 2m, or else roads that run beside a cliff will be on the cliff at some points. Though, for most sceneries I just set it to 10m and be happy.

Hey Rob,

I did change the mesh res a while ago. Not ideal since I paid a few hundred pounds for my hi res mesh. Anyway, the contact change solved the issue.

Go to your FSX settings page and lower the mesh to around 5m.

If the mesh is to high then your aircraft is trying to find the correct ground altitude and that what is causing the aircraft to bounce..

Can you tell me where you found these numbers?

I only can find this:

For the PMDG 777 try this:

static_cg_height=13.70

Looking at the video, everything looks just fine, I did not see any bounce, the minor fluctuations on the radio altimeter during rollout is normal.

Best regards

Hi Robert, it was only the 77F. I have the 77L set up for AES as well but does not have the AES values. Thanks for sharing the correct numbers, will amend.

I don't get any bouncing at all at the gate, only landing which  I changed to Kylan's values, and all is good.

I just thought it was strange that the 77L does not have AES numbers, and It is set up for AES.
