Do ORBX airports conflict with AI Traffic?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just discovered Orbx airports which look lovely in my Orbx England scenery. The lack of AI traffic was resolved by creating various flightplans with AI Flight Planner. I've used this alot and traffic buzzes between UK2000 airports in my game.

For the life of me, though, I cannot get any traffic to turn up at Old Warden or Stapleford. Not really checked the others yet. At OLd Warden I just tested it by having a Hurricane sat there all week and flying to Duxford and back on Saturday. But nothing.

Is there any Orbx issue with AI traffic? I'm still getting traffic at my UK2000 airports.

I don't know about any problems, worked fine for me on the NA and AU airports. What comes to my mind is the"AIrcraft cast shadows on ground" issue. That causes AI traffic to disappear (the lights are visible, though) on some airports, perhaps Old Warden and Stapleford are among them?

I'll investigate that, though I think its already unchecked, Thanks.

Maybe I should check its not AIFP at fault, by creating some traffic at a nonOrbx field first.

I've learnt the procedural technique for fault finding with FSX, I use the same technique in other activities to, these days!

I do have another AIFP problem that has been nagging me the last few days, I can't seem to load up all the airports like I used to, so the tinest ones EG3A for example aren't recognised by AIFP. Old Warden and Stapleford are recognised by the program however, so I doubt that that is the cause of the problem.

Mmmm, it seems to be a parking problem. I have traffic at Stapleford now, but nothing at Old Warden EGTH, despite removing the static plans. AIFP tells me that the Hurricane cannot occupy Parking Spot 9. But I have no traffc going there at all, there are zero aircraft at EGTH. Very confusing. Has anyone created traffic at EGTH I wonder? I was so looking forward to seeing Camels, Harvards, Spitfires etc in the same circuit!!!

AI traffic seems to be the poor stepchild at Orbx. They have peopleflow, creatureflow, staticflow, etc., but traffic flow seems to be not high on the list. I would guess that there's not much in the way of parking at Old Warden. I, too was going to create some circuit traffic, but haven't got around to it yet. I appreciate the freeware airports they are putting out, but I wish they would make a separate bgl for the statics, instead of having to buy a program to remove them. I saw a static Frontier Dash 8 at a French airport....kind of ruins the realism.

If one ignores the lack of undercarriage, it's actually quite a nice landing.

You don't have to pay for a program to edit the airports at all. Airport Design Editor will do it and it's totally free.

Have you actually removed static aircraft from their airports with it? I'm all ears.

I've used ADE to remove the statics and tweak approximately 80 airports in the FTX regions and many more in their freeware and payware airport releases. It's just a matter of getting to know your way around ADE.

Hmmm, the ones I've tried to edit use object.bgl's for the statics and can only be modified with Instant Scenery.

You can't get rid of the static airplanes, there usually aren't enough parking spots, none of the spots are coded with airline codes, and sometimes some airports have no parking spots at all.

Ever more interesting! I'm not losing the plot, I can still create traffic for uk2000 airports. But in my research I did notice ther was an ealier airfield using the designation EGTH at Hatfield, now closed. AIFP brings up 'EGTH Hatfield' when I type in EGTH, I'm sending the planes to an airfirld that doesnt exist! So I directed AIFP to the Orbx version only, EGTH Biggleswade .... Wrote a traffic file ... But nothing ..... Thought I'd cracked it.

There is at least one parking space, because you start off at it, and since you can remove the statics at EGTH most of the spots listed in the Airport selection menu of FSX should by available too.

I'm still missing something.... But I can't afford to spend anymore time investigating really, i need to fly! My choice is rither a beautiful static Old Warden, or an active but not half as pretty UK2000 Old Warden with old veteran aircraft flying around.

As I said above, yes you can and it's not very hard to do. I've done it to nearly 100 ORBX airports.

You need to first have the ORBX libraries in ADE and then import the Object file into the airport that you are working on. If you see black boxes in ADE after importing the Object file, then you've missed some other object library.

I opened the Orbx EGTH in ADE and it says Hatfield, with no airport objects or runway...the EGTH control panel in FTX Central is for Old Warden. Opened the addon EGTH and it has a few parking spots, but only one is connected to the runway.
