Aircraft moves when RCv4 started, no display window

Hi Tim,

I checked the entry for EGKK in a4.csv and it matched yours down to the 5th decimal place so that's okay.

I then loaded your EGKK-LEMH plan into RC4 and started it. No problem.

Whilst still at EGKK I exited RC4 and restarted it and loaded a EGCC-EGLL plan into it. As I suspected it moved the aircraft position to EGCC.

So it seems that RC does a check of the lat/lon in the plan you give it and compares that to the lat/lon in a4.csv and if they're not close enough RC will move your aircraft.

But as I have the same lat/lon in a4.csv as you I'm struggling to see why your aircraft is being moved but mine isn't.

I run RC4 from a networked PC but that shouldn't make any difference. Will you copy and paste this plan and try it into RC4. It's a different format and I'd like to know if that works for you.

Hi,

I have both the UK2000 versions of EGLL and EGKK and these are my entries.
EGKK, , 51.14875 ,-0.1924818 , 3 , 196 , 10352

EGLL, , 51.47122 ,-0.4608005 , 3 , 83 , 12786

Hi Norman,

Your EGKK entry is very different to mine and Tim's especially the 3rd field which I think is mag var. I have v3 Xtreme. is yours the same?

Perhaps you could try loading the EGKK plans above and see if they work for you.

Tim,

I did manage to get the aircraft to move when loading that EGKK-LEMH.pln but on 3 other occasions it didn't. Odd.

But after more research I found this thread which suggests RC4 doesn't like plans encoded with Windows-1252. It wants UTF-8.

I don't know how to get PFPX to output in UTF-8 as I generate mine via WideClient and Project Magenta's CDU.

Unless others can assist your best bet may be to ask the question in the PFPX forum. Sorry I can't help more.

Ray,

The difference could be down to my running the FSX magnetic variation prog after my Xtreme install. All works for me at EGKK.

I will not be able to test the files until Monday evening.

Thanks Norman. That explains the mag var difference.

Tim,

I hate a problem defeating me. Having thought about this more all 3 airports that are causing you problems are very close to the Greenwich meridian. All have a longitude of 00°.

Try a plan from Birmingham or Manchester. If those work then it's something to do with being close to 0°. More thinking required... I'll be back.

Thanks Ray, that does sound entirely plausible - I'll give it a try and let you know - I'll also try that other flight plan that you sent over to see if any joy. It is a strange one this isn't it!

I too love a challenge and am determined to get to the bottom of this some how - it will probably turn out to be something irritatingly simple, although I can't help thinking we've eliminated all the obvious culprits!

Cheers again for your help and time Ray,

Regards,

Tim,

Just one point. You didn't confirm your version of MakeRwys.exe. Given its importance make sure you have 4.675.

You could also try a flight out of London City (EGLC). It's only a few hundred yards to the meridian!

Hi Ray, sorry about that - yes I am using that version of MakeRwys, so I guess we can eliminate that.

But more news - I have just done as you suggested, and loaded a flight from EGCC-LEMH, exported from PFPX, and guess what? Bingo - RC4 loaded fine!

I'll try another northern airport to test the theory, but I think you may be onto something here....

Hi Guys,

I have not had a moving aircraft with any of the plans.

Hi Ray; just wondering whether you'd had any further thoughts on this?

Hi Tim,

I've been waiting to hear from you.  I know the EGCC plan worked but that was created outside of PFPX.

Try creating plans for airports away from longitude 00 and if those are okay but ones with long 00 aren't (like EGLC) then at least it proves the problem is limited to a small area close to the meridian.

Luton and Stansted (22' west and 13' east) are other good tests. Try KJFK too. The results of those should help.

Can you confirm if you're running v4.3 of RC4 please.

Hi Ray, no the EGCC plan that worked was one I created within PFPX after you suggested flying from Manchester or Birmingham, and RC4 worked fine with this. The FP you sent me to try from a different source was departing from EGKK-LFMN - this didn't work unfortunately, which does suggest you might be right about the meridian issue. Sorry if I've caused confusion. ;)

As you suggested, I'll try EGGW and EGSS as well as Kennedy when I get a spare mo, and will report back.

Also yes I confirm I'm using V4.3 of RC4.

Many thanks,

Tim

The last distributed build was 4.3845.

Tim,

Just check you're using the version Ron mentioned. If you're running the same versions of RC, FSUIPC and MakeRwys as me but get problems I don't it is very strange.

I suspect a log will be required so JD can analyse what is happening. if you continue to get these small aircraft shifts please follow the pinned instructions for creating a log and send it to him.

I'm away for a few days and will pick up any messages next Tuesday evening.

Thanks Ray - yes I'm on 4.3.3845. I've not had chance to try out the other airports yet but will do.

Thanks for all your help,
