July 19, 201411 yr Seeing as PMDG have released the 777-300ER last night I thought I would do a quick flight in the new release. I did a short flight from Manchester to Vienna, departing Manchester in rainy conditions. Here is the shot of the weather radar they have added - This was on the ground was setting up the aircraft for the flight:Take OffFlying through the cloudsVery hard to see the aircraft - No editing, just Active Sky Next doing it's job! Finally out of the clouds!Descending closer to ViennaOn the ground at the Vienna Vote to fix transparent sun visors having no effect on the sun glare effect in MSFS at: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sun-shades-sun-visors-not-influencing-light-in-cockpit/691565/
July 19, 201411 yr Beautiful set Matt! She is a gorgeous big sister...both 777s are beautiful but this one in all blacks is stunning. In fact I'm sitting at YSSY with her now, about to take her home. Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
July 19, 201411 yr Fantastic shots, Matthew. Just so that I'm clear, are you stating that I need Active Sky to see the effects of that weather radar, or get the type of screenies you have posted here? I have the REX add-on. Won't that do a similar job? I've just bought the 300ER. Rick Almeida
July 19, 201411 yr Author Fantastic shots, Matthew. Won't that do a similar job? I've just bought the 300ER. Thanks for the comments! PMDG state that you do need Active Sky Next for it to work correctly. Although I didn't have it the first time I loaded the 777-300ER and it still worked. So I'm not sure if there is differences or limitations with/without it. Might be best to ask in the PMDG forums just in case! July 19, 201411 yr Hey Rick, According to PMDG, you need ASN to make the weather radar show actual returns. They have indicated that other weather vendors may eventually have the capability, but they were not specific (as of about a month ago when was the last time I checked). Not sure if its a "here's the components of the code you need to interface with our radar...go program it, then announce on your commercial site that you have integration with the PMDG color radar", or they have to strike a deal with the individual companies first. I didn't read about it too much since I had ASN already. I'd query REX's forums and see the chatter there, and encourage them to get it done if it can be...it is quite the selling point! I don't have to tell you how awesome this bird is...and with accurate color radar, its even more awesomer! LoL....plus the winds aloft datalink feature...my oh my...what a time to be a 777 lover, PMDG and ASN owner! At this moment, I can't see flightsim getting much better (realistically)...until the 747v2 is released! Good to see you again , by the way...have you been absent from here or have I missed your posts recently? July 19, 201411 yr Lol.....just read the supplement to the manual for SP1... "Active Sky Next requirement: The WXR-2100 simulation in SP1 requires the most recent version of the Active Sky Next (ASN) or later weather engine by HiFi Simulations. ASN is the first weather addon to output an external 3D precipitation model, which we’ve used to accurately model the operation of the radar. The weather radar does not currently function with default FSX weather or with any other weather addon. We will evaluate supporting other weather addons on a case-by-case basis if they can provide similar 3D precipitation data output." So there is the official answer Rick....I hope Kyle is not reading this post, he'd say RTFM for sure. I hope REX and others can get on board...this is good stuff! July 19, 201411 yr Commercial Member Quick tip, WXR gets turned on after Push and Start, when you're just about ready to taxi. I believe the radiation affects the ground crew, or something like that.. Aamir Thacker
July 20, 201411 yr Hi Steve. Thanks for all that advice. Yes, indeed. I was away in the USA discovering Utah, Arizona, California and Nevada and eastern Canada. The ultimate dream was driving along Route 66 for me. I reckon after splashing out on a heck of a lot on that trip, plus guitars acquired in Vegas, I'll await a sale at ASN before acquiring that. Tho', am baffled why I keep getting Pilot Response every so often flagging up. Looking forward to some of your amazing artwork repaint wizardry. Rick Almeida
July 20, 201411 yr Tho', am baffled why I keep getting Pilot Response every so often flagging up. Hey Rick...that is a feature you can turn off in the FMC...its a real feature in the 777 to wake up the pilots if they fall asleep...requires them to touch something on the flightdeck every so often. Can't remember what menu its off of, but look in the manual....'splains it in there. Guitars huh? I play as well...but not Stevie Ray Vaughn or anything. July 20, 201411 yr Hi Steve Nor me, re:SRV, but could not resist a bargain Used Martin(which are horrendously expensive here, altho' I saw one, a 1942 model, at the Guitar Center USA online advertised for sale at a cool $33000!!!) and a much cheaper Washburn(a snip at $199) I eventually figured out that warning flag meant something as there was a similar post about the words FMC appearing in the EICAS, but did not know until I read your reply how to turn it off as I fly real-time but also do other things in the background as opposed to sitting watching the screen all the time.
