Installing Fsx On Hdd And Windows On Hdd

Featured Replies

Hello all,

So, I  finalised my set-up:

Intel Core i7-4790K 4x4.00GHz (Turbo 4.40GHz)

Asus Z97-A Motherboard

Vision X-Series SIlent V2 Gaming Case

Kingston 8GB DDR3-2400Hz HyperX FURY

Asus GeForce GTX770 2GB OC (with DirectCU II cooler)

Raidmax 835W Power Supply

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD

1TB Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm, 6GB/s)

Antec Kuhler H20 650

Asus Crystal Sound 2 (Dolby Home Threatre & DTS)

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

The SSD is supposed to be my primary drive, even though its not the largest, and I would like to know whether with this case, it will be possible to install only FSX on the SSD with it being the primary, boot-drive. I would like to install Windows on my HDD, which is my secondary drive. I am just wondering if this will make a difference (the fact that the HDD is not the primary and the way I want to set it up).

Thanks in advance and help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan,

I have a similar set-up.    I used the SSD drive for my C drive, and put my OS there.

The D drive is ONLY for FSX..

You could start by installing the OS (Windows) and FSX on the SSD.

In that case install FSX in a separate folder, like C:\FSX.

If you add enough add-ons to FSX, you will run out of space, and at that point,

you can either move some add-ons to the HDD (D: drive), or buy another SSD..

In any case, having a 1 TB drive is very useful as overflow and backup..

I've got Windows on a 128GB SSD, and FSX on another 128GB SSD, plus a 1TB drive.

A single 256 GB SSD works just as well!

What Bert said makes a lot of sense.

Having either main FSX installation or the OS on a regular HDD is a cause for some stutters and wise to avoid if you have the SSD space.

If you haven't ordered already I would change the 1tb to 3tb. You will tare through it faster than you think especially with photo scenery and mesh etc
