July 30, 201411 yr hi all I was flying today and went away for a while and came back and noticed my fsx frozen, not ctd but just frozen, after googling it I read on another forum one member said it could be heat issue, i then noticed my nvida gpu default gpu fan speed is set at 40%, i increased this to 95% and then flew again and kept the flight on for over 2 hrs and did not have any problems, so hopefully it was the gpu getting hot that was the problem, maybe help someone with similar issues. July 30, 201411 yr Author mine never moved above 40% no matter what the load I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
July 30, 201411 yr Hi Clayton4115, just read your topic on he GPU which made me wanting to see if mine was the same as I also sometimes experience FSX freezing up on me. Problem with me though is that I have no idea where to find the Nvidia GPU fan speed settings and thus hoping you can set me on the right path. Thanks in advenca and kind regards, Dirk
July 30, 201411 yr GPU is supposed to control fan speed automatically, depends on the GPU load. Never had a problem with that with nVidia in FSX. It has been documented (NickN) that Nvidia cards can stick @ 40% fan speed. Not sure if this is an issue for latest cards, I have an GTX580 and fan revs up like it should. I know that the 280 and 480 Nvidea cards suffered this problem which was addressed by using MSI afterburner. So the OP is quite correct. To set your card to say 90%, you can use the feature available in Nvidea Inspector, but it will stay at 90% or what ever you set the speed at, but MSI afterburner will throttle your card depending on the load. Instructions for this, and how to set up MSI Afterburner is in Nick's bible @Simforums System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A, Intel i9-14900KF, Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. July 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member I had problems with frozen FSX syndrome few months ago. Frozen picture with sound, no looping. Can't remember if it was in DX10 or DX9, I solved it after latest full system and FSX reinstall. Never checked the GPU fan and temps though. GTX 560 here btw. July 30, 201411 yr My GPU temp has never exceeded 48°C, no matter what the fan speed was, does that sound about o.k.? What happened to AVSIM

July 30, 201411 yr Commercial Member My GPU temp has never exceeded 48°C, no matter what the fan speed was, does that sound about o.k.? It can go up to 65-70 without a problem, even they are designed to go up to 80-90, I'm not quite sure. Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Olli, trouble is, if you get a freeze, you won't know if your GPU got a bit hot unless you monitor in real time, while in flight. That is the only way to test. I can hear my fan working under load, and hear it throttle back when the load has lightened. Follow BadFinger step by step. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/368207-msi-afterburner-advice-nvidia-drivers/ Heck, I forgot I wrote that. Mind you, it was a couple of years ago From the post that was linked by Samaritano I have tidied up the formatting to make it easier to read. I must have been a lazy poster 2 years ago MSI AFTERBURNER http://event.msi.com...er/download.htm in which you can enable FAN CONTROL In the settings, FAN TAB check ENABLE USER SOFTWARE FAN CONTROLand make a simple DRAG speed/temp point for the MIN and MAX fan speed . I suggest a HIGH END of 85c = 100% fan speed, the low end is based on your ambient and video card temp, I would say 49c = 35% for minimum fan noise when surfing, but you must make that call. All Modern NV cards automatically DROP their CORE SPEED to run cooler when not under 3D load and you do not need to do anything to make that work You must SET the software to START WITH WINDOWS so total fan control is maintained... it has a very SMALL footprint and OK to run at startup Also, I would DISABLE all monitors on the MONTIORING TAB except CORE CLOCKCORE, TEMPFAN SPEEDMEMORY SPEED That's it, but its also up to you what you wish to monitor.. I would at lease leave CORE TEMP and FAN SPEED enabled to check if all is working right.
