August 18, 201411 yr You should never install P3D in the program files folder. If that is the case for the OP, then that is probably why the patcher didn't work properly. UAC on or off, Windows just...doesn't act right when an specific app (even a game) is in Program Files. Oh and I saw this: Nonetheless, The same quality of immersive "simulation", could be said for Skyrim or for that matter any other top 3-D adventure, or first person shooters or MMO games extant, and they have historically patched pretty well. Skyrim was built with modding in mind. They already had a huge modding community and expected people to mod for Skyrim. So the game itself was built in a way so addons would not cause any upgrades to fail. That being said, many addons would break on patches from Bethesda. LM is dealing with a piece of software that wasn't built with that type of modding in mind. Nathan Allen Pinard Virtual Pilot in Training Composer/Sound Designer www.nathanallenpinard.com
August 18, 201411 yr 1. Pete just got back from vacation, so he will be making a FSUIPC for v2.3 very soon (probably today). Might not be today as he posted his feelings on having to redownload 10 gig and loose a day, due to patching problems.
August 18, 201411 yr LM responded to the thread asking why the post was deleted, and explains why the patch wont' work. We will need full installs on most updates I'm sure. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=7947 Yes and to re-iterate what Wes (LM) said: Regarding your experience with the patching process, the patch works on a vanilla copy of 2.2. It sounds like you installed several addons, which all make many different changes to the core Prepar3D files. We cannot develop a supported patch if your core simulator files are being changed by 3rd parties. Some developers are moving towards solutions that do not modify core Prepar3D files, and we are doing all that we can to support them. Hopefully you can understand that we cannot patch something that we don't know what it is (ie: modified core files). Which I believe is exactly what I said. Since I then performed a full reinstall, would these files be replaced or do I need to install the SimConnect client (not sure what that is or where to get it). SimConnect installs in many ways ... P3D will install the ESP version even though it has it's on built in managed version. But P3D provide the FSX SP2 version also in there ...\redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib -- some 3rd party products will ONLY work with the FSX-SP2 SimConnect. This is how it will look if you have ESP and/or FSX SimConnect clients installed (ignore MJC reference pic was intended for another use): Cheers, Rob. Might not be today as he posted his feelings on having to redownload 10 gig and loose a day I find it hard to believe Pete is complaining about this ... his own end users/customers have had to do this many many times with frequent releases/updates that Pete provides ... and those updates aren't always smooth sailing either ... surprised Pete would have an issue with this process. Cheers, Rob.
August 18, 201411 yr You are going to have a very long wait if that is your expectation... ...Please please read what I wrote (I swear, sometimes I think if I write something longer than 2 sentence it gets completely ignored), it will help you understand the issues and maybe even drop your expectations down a notch ... other major publishers don't have an SDK with 1000's of 3rd party companies working over 12+ years on it. Other major publishers have over 1000 resource (artists, programmers, deployment programmers, etc. etc.) working on their "game" (that was the head count for Crysis). LM do have more resources than I thought working on P3D, but they don't come close to 1000 resources. It's is best to dial one's expectation into the reality of the development situation. Dear Rob, I did read, and continue to read, your respected input, and the reports, data , complaints and solutions of hundreds contributors and pundits... ...did you read this part of my post? "2. Learn from the other major publishers, how Unobtrusive, non-destructive upgrades are done. To play devil's advocate though, I confidently submit that there is not another piece of software IN THE WORLD , outside of an operating system, that has so many add-on developers. August 18, 201411 yr Author That log doesn't say much at all? It's very short and not your typical length for an installer log. Is there something longer and more verbose you have? Hi Rob, I don't know how you manage to keep up with all the posts but, in your haste, I'm afraid you missed my statement that this was the last few lines of a 15.5MB generated log file. Since you ask, the answer is yes. Wes, as you are aware, has kindly responded to my complaint and I have thanked him. Also, I've taken the opportunity to provide an explanation for my recent activity...... plus I've dared to make a polite request: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=7947.0#postid-43308 There you will find links to a couple of log files.
