August 22, 201411 yr I have uninstalled FSX Deluxe SP2 following the PMDG guide (http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx) to the letter. The only problem I encountered was that after uninstalling the SDK and FSX SP2, I could not uninstall the remaining FSX program. After numerous restarts and retries I ended up manually deleting the folder, the app data folders, etc. and manually removing the registry entries. Now when I put in FSX Gold Disk 1, I get the option to select checkdvd, clicking on this starts and installer that disappears after a few minutes, the disk continues to spin, but no other installer information on the screen. FSX starts to copy over files to my old fsx directory but then stops. Any ideas on how to get this to install correctly? Mark CYYZ
August 22, 201411 yr Check this out: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/449950-total-uninstall-of-fsx-and-eveything-connected-to-fsx/ Maybe run CCleaner too?
August 22, 201411 yr Author I actually did use CC Cleaner. I have read elsewhere that there are numerous issues with the disks and some have had better luck using Alcohol 120% demo to create virtual disks on their hard drive. I guess I can try that next. Mark CYYZ
August 22, 201411 yr @MarkW: I would try cleaning the DVD´s with real alcohol! Or better yet, dishwashing soap/liquid, tried it many times when problems reading them DVD/CD´s - it works.
August 22, 201411 yr MarkW The problem is, you haven't uninstalled FSX. FSX is very resilient software and that is why the CD/DVD is not completing. Ask Google how to uninstall FSX which is a long journey. Took me a week last time I had to do it due to an error in the uninstall process I made. But it can be done other than reinstalling Windows and FSX from the ground up. Good luck and be patience with it. No easy quick fix now. Cheers,

Just out of curiosity, why did you remove Deluxe in the first place? Because an aircraft I really like....the Captain Sim 727 (heavily modified to perform as per real world engine performance) does not work with Deluxe only with Acceleration. The A/P in the old three holer is a pitch up/down but without acceleration the pitch control does not work properly....it pitches but only in one direction, then is porpoises all over the place. According the the guys using it on their forums, as soon as you add Acceleration it works like a dream. Captain Sim claim that Microsoft forgot to add some code in SP2 that is needed and only available in Acceleration. MarkW The problem is, you haven't uninstalled FSX. I have that plane and it works fine here with SP2, not sure who gave you that info, it may apply to only their system. However you could have just deleted SP2 and added Acceleration without a complete reinstall, it is a separate addon package. Jay
August 22, 201411 yr Author I am amazed because there are lots of people reporting the same issue on their forums. I thought about just adding Acelleration on top of SP2 (or after uninstalling SP2) but read that it messes up your scenery files when you do that. Mark CYYZ
August 22, 201411 yr I thought about just adding Acelleration on top of SP2 (or after uninstalling SP2) but read that it messes up your scenery files when you do that. Acceleration IS SP2. Acceleration was released long before SP2. SP2 is coded differently so that the individuals who download and install this SP will not be able to use any of the additional aircraft or scenery that was placed in the payware version called Acceleration. So, if you have SP2 and Acceleration installed, expect issues with FSX and/or any addon. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 22, 201411 yr Author No I don't have both installed. I think the problem is with the Installshield. I can put the disk in my old computer (which still has FSX installed) and it starts the install no problem. I am getting through the Insallshield but just when it should bring up the FSX install screen it crashes. I used the FixIt program from Microsoft to remove all traces of Flight Simulator X. Mark CYYZ

If you install Acceleration on top of SP2 yes, you will have problems. If you had removed SP2 first, then installed Acceleration it should work fine. The problem with people having issues is mostly due to not following instructions which MS was very clear on. Jay
August 22, 201411 yr Author Just to be clear, all I did was uninstall....addons first, then SP2, then FSX (I did not own Acceleration until this week). I have not been able to get the install to work. Mark CYYZ
August 22, 201411 yr I am sure you already know this, but just to check.... anti virus off, firewalls off, run installer as Admin.... tried 'compatibility' mode? Jay
