August 24, 201411 yr I don't know if I should get a i5 4690k with my current gtx 760 or a i7 4790k with a new 780. Option B is obviously the more expensive route to go on but I would love to play FSX with a lot of addons (I already own REX and Carenado's TBM 850, and with my current setup it just isn't comfortable flying). As we all know, FSX is an older game so you need really good freaking hardware to play it comfortably. Supposedly nvidia + intel works fantastic with FSX. So main question is would there be a big difference between the 4690k + 760 and the 4790k + 780 when playing FSX (if anyone actually does) and would I be fine using just a 4690k and 760 Playing major flagship games like bf4 and bioshock I know I would do fine on either of those setups so normal gaming I'm gonna be fine. I really hope that I can use the 4690k with my 760 in fsx because i really cant fork out 500 more dollhairs for an improved graphics card, and it will obviously bottleneck if I'm running 4790k + 760. Thanks in advance guys Also, would I need to reinstall windows after upgrading motherboard and cpu? I'd be coming from an 8350 (If anyone wants to know I am using an FX-8350 Piledriver and EVGA GTX 760 2GB) Anthony Franzone
August 24, 201411 yr Nice compromise would be 4690k (overclocked) + 770. I guess there are all sorts of programs out there to copy your O/S because I doubt you will just be able to fire up your new system and have Windows boot for you. Personally I would do a nice fresh install and start out with a nice clean vanilla O/S + a nice clean vanilla FSX, both set up as per the guides here on AVSIM, but that's my preference. August 24, 201411 yr If money is an issue - 4790K and GTX770. But you can start with your 760 and upgrade later... I kept my GTX460 for a while, and it was OK.. but the 770 added a lot of smoothness. Bert

There won't be much difference between the setups apart from the price. If you won't overclock get the i7. If you're a fan of photo scenery get the i7. The 760 is still a powerful GPU. Pair the new Haswell CPU (preferably overclocked) with some high speed low latency RAM and I promise you'll see a big difference to your current setup. If you feel that you get too low FPS in cloud you can consider upgrading to the 780 later. I've got it myself and its a lovely quiet GPU, but for my FSX usage its very much overkill.
August 24, 201411 yr I vote with Bert for the 4790K and GTX 770. I did that when I rebuilt my system, works very well Ryzen 9 7900X, AsRock Taichi B650e, MSI RTX 4070 Ti Super, 32GB G Skill Flare, 850W PSU, 4TB WD 850 SSD, Win 11 Pro, 27" 1440p MSI monitor

I've got 16 gigs of Corsair Vengeance at 1866. So youre basically telling me that if I get the i5 and stick with my 760 I should get a lot better performance? (If I oc the i5) I vote with Bert for the 4790K and GTX 770. I did that when I rebuilt my system, works very well I would love to get a 770 or even a 780 and the i7 but for one the 770 is not that much of an upgrade from a 760 and money is an issue. If I were to get a 4790k and keep my 760 it would bottleneck a whole lot Anthony Franzone
August 24, 201411 yr Bet that 4690K is as good as the 4790k with HT disabled for high clock, agree withSAAB340 in all. I have no 4690K but a really good 4670K and a normal 4770K the I5 outperform it 5.0 to 4.7 for the 4770K. Have not test my really good 4790K hard in FSX yet the only diff to my 4670k is a stronger IMC, but the diff is in the high side +3000mhz the 4670k is stable at 2800-2900mhz with MFR mems, my 4790k is stable at 3300mhz with same mems. Not all have +2800mhz mems , the diff if is minimal up to 2666-2800mhz on the mems. 760 or 770 no big difference more like 670 to 680 its the old GK104 in both cards i not recomend 770 waste of money if you have a 760.. go for GK110 780 or wait for 870/ 880 thats round the corner. if money is an issue go for the 4690k you see a big improvment from the FX8350, a now have a FX8350. http://
August 24, 201411 yr Yes DiamondOreo, you'll get better performance in FSX even with a stock i5K Haswell than you'll get with an overclocked FX8350. And if you overclock the i5 you'll get even more performance. Westman has both so you can trust him when he says you'll see a big improvement. Welcome as a poster in the community BTW
August 25, 201411 yr Author Thanks for all the replys guys, now I know that I'll get better performance with a 4690k and a 760. Soon I'll save up for a 780 or maybe even one of the 800 series cards that should be announced soon Anthony Franzone
