August 30, 201411 yr Glad you got it sorted Mick ... odd that the .fxml extension didn't already associate to P3D v2.3 (prepar3d.exe) ... I thought the P3D installer added the necessary registry entries to make the .fxml extensions automatically associate with P3D v2.3. Oh well, you got it sorted. Thanks Rob. I guess at some point I have set windows 7 to always open that file type with notepad. Mick Off topic but:Just as a matter of interest is anyone else still getting service unavailable?. Here in the UK invariably I cannot log on between 9 and 10 am I thought with upgraded servers etc. it should have been cured.
August 30, 201411 yr Rob...I think that the best case for an eventual OOM, is in using a very sophisticated cockpit model. As perhaps a million people know...I am quite fond of the Carenado C377 SkyMaster, I can fly until my chin smacks the computer desk with v2.3 and that is with all eye-candy engaged at pretty well, the highest settings, and either Orbx Global/Vector/Pilots, or Orbx Region/Vector/Pilots. IF I try that at the settings I need to feel immersed in FSX DX10/Steve's Fixer, I can expect an OOM in about 30-40 minutes of flight. It is,what it is.... Whatever they have done, (like Google making Garbage Collection in KitKat 4.4.4 truly work...) it is working, As for stutters (or what some call stutters, but is merely the screen being rewritten/updated with a very complex graphic calculation in play...that is what it is, as well. There is not a P.C. on the planet at this time, in ANY CPU/GPU configuration that will give you a scree update so fast...that it mimics visual true life...not a one. So, with THAT being said...if your CPU/GPU can give you enough of an screen update, that doesn't make it a chunk show....like the old turn-of-the-century flip cards....then all is good. I have a slight screen update micro-pause at the highest settings. So what? The world on my monitor, is being mimicked by v.2.3 and all the add-ons in conjunction, so as to erase any slight irritant that screen-updating might cause. I'd rather have that visual twitch, than to start rendering DOWN, what the graphics can be, to mimic RL, ONLY to have smoothness, in that the eye does not pick up the action of screen scene-to-scene updating. Each to their own needs, of course. It has always been since 1978, my quest to mimic what you see from a real airplane window seat...and finally, in 2014, I have that. All is good...and that is what prompts my 'monologue posts' to the seemingly irritation of Spirit-_66 (too bad.....don't read...) As I fly, I am so amazed at how close what I see on my monitor within P3D v2.3/add-ons is to when I fly in RL...I wish to express that on the moment. Rob, you know you have finally arrived at a time in flight simulation, when with every flight you do....there is a bout of head-shaking, smiling, and tongue-tisking....that you feel, you just taxied to the active, you feel, you just pushed the throttles home, that you feel you just rotated, and that you feel...you are climbing out to your final altitude. Since v2.3, with its HDR, with its Volumetric Fog, with the entire Shadow Suite (yes, bug in terrain...will be shortly fixed...), with Water and all features enabled...., with sheer performance that allows me to be at the highest settings, and chunk-free, with hours of flight ahead of me...(no OOM CTD)....I feel I have finally gotten (as stated) everything I have always had on my check-list for using a flight simulator software package, to let me feel the joy of flight. If hardware is produced, that will give invisible-to-the-eye screen render updates, that will produce 100 percent fluid animation, then I will have a full-hundred percent experience, rather than the 98 percent, I have right now....., I think that there are a lot of forum members that set that invisible-screen-rendering so high on their list...that they are blinded to the 98 percent of reality, they ARE getting right now.....and that is sad, for it kills the virtual experience for them......and then sadly,... with the outcome that they can NOT seem to get past, that enjoyment-blockage. My box-top four cents... With V2.3....no OOM's...that I can fly until I drop....and with such gorgeous land and sky visuals....with total flight and object-based, world simulation, all this----> has finally arrived in my world. Cheers, and thanks for the above-board work you have done (personal time spent) to make it all the better for me, before RTU (release to users, lol). Mitch
August 31, 201411 yr What a very nice post Mitch ... it's good to see people figuring out how to get the best out of their software and enjoying it. Cheers, Rob.
August 31, 201411 yr +100 Mitch. I can't say it any better than that. I'll echo Rob's sentiments in saying, it's nice to see/hear someone focusing on the bright side. The bonus is, that LM are 'listening,' and we will get to see v2.4. Keep her straight, Skipper. See you in the wild blue yonder. Cheers, Jazz.
August 31, 201411 yr After a month or so of struggling with my new PC and P3D I am having my very own Mitch-moments everyday now! And thank you Mith for saving me a lot of time by taking the words right out of my mouth with your posts! ^_^ What I have on my PC right now is absolutely awesome! My usual flying time has actually doubled (seriously!) due to everything looking so good! I have to add that my recent purchases of ASN and Vector+OpenLC (I already owned Global) helps a lot in making my jaw drop everyday. But the things that P3D offer, popup free autogen, cloud shadows, volumetric fog, HDR... my oh my... it's... it's... well, what Mitch said!

Run P3D 2. Goto your departure airport 3. Select your aircraft 4. Save the Flight (.fxml) 5. Exit P3D 6. Check all your EXE.XML processes are gone (not still loaded) 7. Locate your saved flight (i.e. C:\Users\Rob\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files\KSFO - Airbus X.fxml) 8. Double click the saved flight file (.fxml) 9. Enjoy your flight Cheers, Rob. Is the above still actual for P3Dv3-4? Quote 6. Check all your EXE.XML processes are gone (not still loaded) How to check that properly? Thanks, Dirk. Edited May 13, 20179 yr by Dirk98
