September 21, 201411 yr Fly to Ivato airport (FMMI) in Madagascar. Land via the ILS on rwy 11 at night. Good luck to you. I flew here on my round the world flight in a DC9. I reckon the real world airport is not like this but it's a shocking approach when you are not expecting it. Fortunately the weather was okay or it would have been curtains. Won't give any more details, try it out for yourself.

September 22, 201411 yr Commercial Member I made it but yeah, it's a good thing the visibility wasn't 3nm or less.
September 22, 201411 yr Commercial Member A quick view in Google Earth says... yeah, it's like that, though not quite as pronounced as the sim is. The runway's elevation is lower than the hill on approach. By enough to obscure the runway at certain altitudes. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
September 23, 201411 yr This landing wasn't much of a surprise at all for me. There was a hill just before the runway, but it was small enough that it didn't even require any change in my ILS approach. Perhaps this is because I have Pilot's FS Global 2010 installed (FTX compatible version), which makes the hill smaller (closer to what it is in real life), than it is without this mesh installed. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
September 23, 201411 yr Commercial Member Must be the mesh, I have none installed for the area, the glideslope would have had me tunneling 100' undergound. I had to drop like a rock at the last second and still didn't touch down until 2/3 of the way down the runway (737 Max 8). I screwed up to begin with by assuming the airport would be just slightly above sea level rather than actually checking the field data, so I almost killed myself on the descent long before I ever got established on the localizer, lol. I planned my descent to hit about 2000' MSL at the end of the ILS feather and at about 6000' the ground started looking "really close" so I stopped descending and drug it in for 30nm at 6000'. Sloppy Joe, lol. I think I have some mesh but just not installed, I may try it again.
September 23, 201411 yr Yeah flew it a couple of times, very interesting approach LOL! I always fly a 747-400 in there so that quick drop near the end is quite something to get right! I have done it at night with very poor visibility. But it is a very weird feeling coming in on the ILS, knowing about that hill and blindly trusting your instruments to get you safely over it.
