December 25, 201411 yr Uninstall from the Microsoft "add/delete program menu". Make sure you get all parts of the driver....anything that says NVidia. Do a custom install....there are parts of the driver you don't really need for Flight Sim so you can elect not to install those. Check the clean install box and install, nothing else to do really as the process has become much more simple than in the past. Mark CYYZ
December 25, 201411 yr At the bottom of the custom selection it has a checkbox for perform clean install, yea or nay?
December 25, 201411 yr Absolutely. You use that all that manually uninstalling from control panel will not be necessary! William
December 25, 201411 yr Yes, select clean install just as Mark said. Also, uninstall the C:\Nvidia\NvidiaDisplayDriver, the old and new one is not required as it is there for installation purposes only. \Robert Hamlich/
December 25, 201411 yr Absolutely. You use that all that manually uninstalling from control panel will not be necessary! Thanks, that's what I figured , it was do it manually or let NVIDIA do it. Still running 314.XXX lol from 2 years ago. I doubt updating a driver for FSX will do anything but I feel the urge to tinker.
December 25, 201411 yr Make sure to delete your FSX.cfg and if you are using nVidia Inspector you will have to clear your FSX settings by selecting nVidia Control Panel from your desktop (right click), "Manage 3D settings" and pressing "Restore." Then redo your settings and you'll be good to go. \Robert Hamlich/
December 25, 201411 yr Why would I have to delete FSX.cfg? I understand resetting NI settings plus Nividia control panel but I don't know why it would have any effect on Fsx.cfg.
December 25, 201411 yr It's something that I was taught by a fellow that tweaked flight simulator for a living and I still do it out of habit. \Robert Hamlich/
December 25, 201411 yr Why would I have to delete FSX.cfg? I understand resetting NI settings plus Nividia control panel but I don't know why it would have any effect on Fsx.cfg. I find it's a good habit to rebuild the FSX.CFG file every once in a while, I do about every 6 months, or when I change out a video driver. After a while it gets cluttered, and many times I've seen increased performance after a rebuild. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
January 19, 201511 yr Why would I have to delete FSX.cfg? I understand resetting NI settings plus Nividia control panel but I don't know why it would have any effect on Fsx.cfg. Because your FSX.CFG, lists and references your old Graphics Card! You could just remove the [Display.<your_graphics_card>] entry, but it's safer to delete the FSX.CFG, let FSX compile a new one, then tweak the new one as desired.
