GEX releases new Australia and Antartica!

Recommended Posts

I'm very sorry... we absolutely acknowledge New Zealand, quite a few screenshots were taken from there, Auckland for example. I'm also a fan of the Hobbit / Lord of the Rings and I know the film sets are from this beautiful country!

No need to apologize Anthony, I just thought it might be confusing for some, thinking NZ was not included. If the product had Australasia in the title that would be ideal.. Appreciate you response, and look forward to adding this new GEX region to my library..

I think we are at cross purposes. I do know the correct naming, good heavens, I live in Oceania :). I am referring to the advertising title of GEX Australia. It includes NZ, so why is NZ missing from the title ? See what I am getting at. The title should be Australasia.

This is part of the title: "GEX Australia and Antarctica v1.00 - Part of the GEX WORLD SYSTEM

Now, where in that title is NZ ? It's not is it. And why ?

I only found it existed in the product by reading the small print. So my point is, do F1 think NZ is a state of OZ, and do you think it is too ?

Anytime Ron lol

I agree, If NZ is part of the package, Australia is not the correct name, it should be Australasia, or "Australia, Zealandia and Antarctica".

Sorry for not explaining correctly in the first place, we are now on the same page lol

Nah, a little geo discussion is always interresting. That's half the reason I like FS. Virtual travel is so much more comfortable than real flight (even on business class, 10+ flights are a nightmare).

The thing about continents is that there aren't any official definitions. They're a mix of historical, geographical and political terms, non entirely accurate. Europe for instance isn't a continent in a geographical sense, but politically so.

Just came across this thread. I run 2 sim rigs, one for Orbx scenery products and another for F1 and Aerosoft scenery products.

I want to add GEX A&A for the Australia (and NZ) textures. But I have Aerosoft Antarctica installed also. I'm uncertain as to whether the Aerosoft (being a phototype scenery?) will show on top of GEX Antarctica as long as it's active in the scenery library.

Anyone tried this combination yet?

Thanks.

Interesting geography chat...

The problem is it just turned into a battle of egos where everyone wants to be right and they're not.. (Or they all are if you want to look at it that way...).

When I was little I lived in north america, and they call THE WHOLE CONTINENT "Australia" (maybe the same as they shorten their country'sfull name and call themselves America). I live in south america, and we call the continent "Oceania". So different places call other places different too... As long as we clear up what we're talking about it's all good, no need to be paranoid.. :P

Semantics is not geography...linguistics belong to only he who speaks it.

Proper nouns have nothing to do with semantics...

It could have been worse; they could have used Australasia in the title and then not include New Zealand. Sort of like having FSX Deluxe Edition without the SDK (à la Dovetail Games).

but to claim one's use of an 'improper' noun is a matter of semantics.
