GEX releases new Australia and Antartica!

Featured Replies

Looks quite good, however I have Orbx Australia so its of no value to me unless I want to make a big change.  I wonder what comparison shots look like between the two.

Another company that thinks NZ is a state of Australia lol Not sure why it is left out of the title, but it does include NZ

The name probably refers to Australia as one of seven continent, not as a country.

Looking at the screenshots of Australia, they look pretty stunning.  Honestly, I've never been able to sort out what GEX does as opposed to UTX.  It always gets muddled in my mind.

GEX=Textures, Like FTX Global but not as nice.

UTX= Accurate vector coastlines + Urban Landclass and also adds some textures for industrial areas, beaches, golf courses and train stations ect

UTX has a ton of options for enhancing specific areas of scenery, like shorelines, railroads, etc.... GEX optimizes general scenery as well as AI, making things not only look a lot better, but more accurate.

I have UTX and all GEX scenery's and together they make FSX a new sim, not to mention MUCH better performance. After installing the new GSX I pushed my autogen up to max and get better FPS than when I had lower AI settings. UTX does need to be 'tweaked' for your specific system though, as certain things can bring performance down.... but they do provide a gauge for each option to tell you how much that specific option affects things.

One other thing, GEX is designed to work directly with UTX so they both compliment each other. One last thing, neither GEX or UTX change any FSX core files, unlike FTX, and that alone swayed me.

So, if I understand correctly, GEX=textures.

UTX = more textures plus coasts, waterlines, changed placement of objects.

So GEX is like FTX Global.  UTX is like FTX Vector plus OpenLC?

Is that it?

You mean autogen? Haven't seen any AI (Artificial Intelligence, like moving aircraft, cars, animals, people etc.) enhancements in GEX.

And how does GEX make the world look more accurate - It's just a few texture sets that get reused 1000x times? Did you mean realistic as in less cartoonish textures?

GEX is mostly a graphical upgrade that replaces the default landclass textures. To use them in a more accurate way you need UTX (or a landclass addon like Scenery Tech or Cloud9 XClass) to tell FSX where to put those textures in the sim.

UTX does change at least one FSX core file

Close enough Greg

Not exactly. The name would be Australasia, or Oceania. It is either laziness or ignorance when some refer to a country as part of another when it is not. Orbx at least got that right :)

No, Australia is a valid name for both the continent and the country. Oceania isn't a continent.

I think we are at cross purposes. I do know the correct naming, good heavens, I live in Oceania :). I am referring to the advertising title of GEX Australia. It includes NZ, so why is NZ missing from the title ? See what I am getting at. The title should be Australasia.

This is part of the title: "GEX Australia and Antarctica v1.00 - Part of the GEX WORLD SYSTEM

Now, where in that title is NZ ? It's not is it. And why ?

I only found it existed in the product by reading the small print. So my point is, do F1 think NZ is a state of OZ, and do you think it is too ?
