As real as it gets-rain spots

Featured Replies

Occasionally I'll see a video that shows spots on the window of the aircraft. Awhile back I believe there was a post on here telling how it is done. Couldn't find it in a search, so I'm asking if anyone knows how it's done can you post it here ? Thanks

Hi, i am not sure you are looking to edit a video or to get the rain effect in the sim but I guess what you are referring to is achieved through a video editing program ("sony vegas" is very popular) which is used by video makers to edit their videos and make them more realistic, much like adding real life cockpit sounds to a fsx video track; it's a rather common "post-production" practice nowadays, but nothing to do with fsx itself.

I also stumbled across a video on youtube explaining how to add that effect in the video editing phase, here is a link to what i am talking about, just to make sure we're on the same page:

You can only add this sort of effect to a video, not to the game itself. I might be wrong though, anybody?

As far as I know, the ACES team deleted raindrops from FSX, but it is possible to include them as part of an aircraft's model.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I don't have the details to hand right now, but in order to get windshield rain effects in FSX you need to replace the FSX rain textures with the FS9 versions. That said, I believe they will only show up if the aircraft model invokes/allows them.

Raindrops on the windshields only appear if:

- the model was made for FS9

and

- the rain textures from FS9 are installed.

FSX models need this built into the model file, which is not possible for the end-user.
