737NG other than PMDG

Featured Replies

Recently I read some comments comparing a new 737NG payware a/c to PMDG's and the name of the maker/publisher escapes me. I remember going to the website and reading how it incorporates some radical new concepts regarding VC's. Can any point me in the direction?thanks,Eric

Basicly. the VC's come to the avionics i guess.. if thats what your getting at. The 37 has much more advanced avionics and is much more sophisticated than the B1900 series that they also sale..Dont know if that helps or if that answers your question.. :):-wave

Ariane, thanks! That's what I was trying to remember. I read here somewhere that some people preffered it to the PMDG. I love my PMDG 737NG, but would like to consider this one too for kicks. Any thoughts?

Just go ahead with the Ariane Ng's. Haven't used my Pmdg for the last 7 month's, since this beauty arrived my pc. I think this is the best Ng simulation so far.Ariane will also set up their own support forum by the next week, I'm told.

I agree with Rune, this is a very good NG Simulator, the night lighting in this aircraft is one of the best so far.I dont know about any other Ariane users, but sometimes I forget that I am at my pc flying the sim, it really makes you feel that you are in a NG cockpit! :) and the 2Di view is great. The one thing I like the most is my FPS are great with this aircraft.-Paul

At least the Ariane looks nice....pity the systems totally suck. Not even in the same league as PMDG for actual operating realism. Not to mention the support (or lack of it I should say)

How do they suck?

I'm curious too--the poster is obviously an NG pilot :) and I'm sure he owns both products, so that expertise would be very helpful, wouldn't it?-John

Well I only (ONLY) have the PMDG 737.If the Ariane version is better, it's absolutley excellent. But nothing I've read suggests it's half as good.......

well I'll chime in here for a quick sec...since im a new user of this bird i havent had time to check some things as of yet so im sure ive yet to find other things that dont function yet, but...the fmc is not 100% functional, for instance, it does not calculate VREF according to your gross weight and does not do any fuel prediction for your waypoints (it will in the future though according to the company)...as for holds and such i dunno as i havent tried that yet. The flight director only offers cross bars and cannot be used to fly predictable hand-flown ILS approaches as it doesnt have the capability to follow the g/s unless you engage the a/p for a dual axis auto landing. The flight dynamics are also off a bit in regards to the amount of flap lift (theres too much of it) which causes you to have to fly 10-15kts slower on approach than the published vref numbers, currently in discussion with them about this and you will most likely see it fixed in the next update. As for a positive note...i happen to love the a/p on this thing, its great...and appears more well behaved in certain regimes than other offerings, flch mode works nicely too, as does the TCAS system which is alot of fun since it has a voice which will give you avoidance instruction should a traffic conflict arise, pretty neat :-) There are panel lighting options a-plenty to suit anytime of day or evening plus many other little features which make this a really fun experience.DaveDave

It's been well documented over the last year about the differences between the two offerings. I'm not going to start over again the endless threads about this, so do a search.Hint - search posts by Randy Smith and Brad Marsh and you will see how PMDG is the clear winner (if you like more substance than just eye-candy that is)

"It's been well documented over the last year about the differences between the two offerings. I'm not going to start over again the endless threads about this, so do a search."No problem if you want to offer an opinion--as long as you qualify your remarks saying you don't own it. I try to qualify my remarks that way when I don't own something since I base many opinions on what I read too, and most honest posters do. Certainly I can see why you felt compelled to reply given the praise this thread provided the opportunity for. I always raise my eyebrows when two threads appear within a few hours of each other asking about Ariane, because it certainly drums up a lot of free attention for them--it's not like the product's been just released and is a "hot" topic. Can't help but wonder about the timing of these threads. But I also look down on posters who reply without first hand expertise and don't even have the honesty to say so. That's also been discussed in endless threads.-John

No problem at all.......I certainly do not own the ariane product. I wouldn't ever buy anything from them again after previous experiences.I apologise if I came across a little rude, but in all honesty, after reading the above mentioned posts from people who do own the Ariane NG and the PMDG NG the winner is clear.
