February 4, 201511 yr I am using Dee Waldren's Piper Navajo for AI at King Salmon and I find that it disappears from sight at a distance when other planes that are further away are still visible. I am talking about when on the taxiway, not when flying. Is this adjustable, or is it part of the .mdl file and therefore not accessible?
February 5, 201511 yr I am talking about when on the taxiway, not when flying. Is this adjustable, or is it part of the .mdl file and therefore not accessible? The model has 3 LOD so visibility at a distance could be the problem ,however, if it is the problem there is no fix. I have noticed myself that some of the AI GA aircraft (by various creators) tend to be real hard to see from a distance. I just took a look at PAFA where there a lots of PA31s around and they did indeed disappear while other AI remained in view, a C208 and a B200. So from that I would say it is the way the model was constructed and not fixable. I never noticed that myself until you pointed it out. One would have to decompile the model and add more LODs to it and that wouldn't be appropriate with out Dees' permission. Sorry for the bad news! Regards,
February 5, 201511 yr Author So, as I suspected. It makes it tricky when looking down the runway to see if there is a plane there before committing to taxi down the runway for takeoff. Suddenly there is a Piper charging towards you! It reminds me of something completely different that happened to me at Rockcliffe CYRO, when I looked to see if there was anyone on final before taxiing onto the runway, maybe somebody without a radio. There was, I could see the landing light. I waited, nobody landed, looked again, couldn't see any plane, eventually announced on the radio and took off, puzzled. A few months later I was driving along the road next to the airfield and I saw a landing light on finals, but kept my eye on it as it disappeared, and then reappeared. It wasn't a landing light, it was the sun reflecting off a seagull as it turned, catching the full wingspan, then disappearing as it turned further.
February 5, 201511 yr AI models are constructed with lower LOD settings to keep loading on the FS rendering engine down so performance is less affected. This is apparent when your traffic density is high. DW might have had that in mind. It is possible DW was considering the lower performance PCs at the time.
February 5, 201511 yr Maybe is what the people says about LOD, but checkout the SmallPartRejectRadius parameter in fsx.cfg. It has to be 1 because if it is more the planes or objects will disappear (when the pixel size of those objects or planes are that size number) Javier Rollon. Owner of JRollon Planes for Xplane
February 6, 201511 yr Maybe is what the people says about LOD, but checkout the SmallPartRejectRadius parameter in fsx.cfg....... FSX.cfg ?!!!! Why do people do that?
February 6, 201511 yr It makes it tricky when looking down the runway to see if there is a plane there before committing to taxi down the runway for takeoffIf that is your only aim, a quick <CTRL>-<SHIFT>-L will toggle AI labels so you can see them...
February 6, 201511 yr Author I am still with FS9, as FSX does not have anything like the same Canadian and Alaskan airport numbers that are available in FS9. Is the small part reject radius parameter the same in FS9? What happens if you change the 1 to 0.5, do the small objects stay in sight longer? I would prefer to be able to see the plane instead of using the "labels".
February 7, 201511 yr Is the small part reject radius parameter the same in FS9? What happens if you change the 1 to 0.5, do the small objects stay in sight longer? There is no such setting in FS9! That shouldn't have even been posted in this forum since it is only useful to a person using FSX. Regards,
February 8, 201511 yr There is no such setting in FS9! That shouldn't have even been posted in this forum since it is only useful to a person using FSX. Regards, Here, Here! Bully for You! I've noticed that more and more subversive sleeper cells and being activated in this forum. who give "advice" based on their FSX experience. We must resist and drive these who wish to subvert the forum out FS2004/FS9 Forum ...... Home of the proud, brave, and literate (or at least know how to read the forum titles)
February 8, 201511 yr We must resist and drive these who wish to subvert the forum out We need tolerance for those who invade our sanctuary! I am sure their subversion is for our own well being. :Big Grin: Regards,
