North America Themed flight plan ideas

Featured Replies

For a while I've just been aimlessly flying around the U.S. in the pmdg 737 and now the Realair Duke, to airfields that I have enhanced scenery for which is constantly growing. It has gotten to the point where it takes 15 minutes to decide where I want to fly because there's so much to choose from and so many places I haven't flown. I've looked into FSCaptain but that doesn't seem to be for me.

What kind of "themes" do some of you use when doing many many flights across the country, I'm looking for any creative ideas such as following a sports team around, music artist on tour, etc. that other folks use. Do you continue from where you've parked and left off every flight, pretend someone else flew a leg somewhere else and pick up there?

Looking for anything VFR or IFR as I can do both types with those two aircraft.

I have Google kmzs and FSX flight plans for a Donner Party themed flight I drew up. Follows their exact trail using closest possible airports and waypoints, usually within a few miles if not exact. Let me know if you'd like me to send you the plans.

I've also followed this article (http://www.aopa.org/letsgoflying/stories/post9506.html) flying through the "Mother Lode Skyway" which follows the trail of the goldrush. As you can probably tell, I have a thing for historical themes. On longer trips, I usually split it into multiple legs and fly each leg a different day.

Thanks for contributing interesting ideas.

I think I will start small and follow the NASCAR circuit and fly into the smaller airports in whatever city they're in weekly. On longer hauls I can stop at interesting places on the way for fuel.

This will make it easier to stick with the commitment as its only 1-2 trips a week that I am obligated to do, and I can create more depending on the time I have.

Had the same issues years ago until I found FS Economy.  http://www.fseconomy.net/

This will bring complete "purpose and addiction" to your flight sim hobby.  There is no time commitment whatsoever.  You begin by renting aircraft.  The profits from your flights go into your bank account.  Use these funds to work towards buying your own aircraft and/or FBOs as desired.  The community is supported by hundreds of pilots in extremely active forums and Teamspeak (if desired).  Everything is 100% FREE !  Celebrating 10 years and going strong !

Good idea on the sports team, whether it be MLB, NFL, NBA, or NHL. Throw in the PGA and you have some real traveling! Besides, those PGA guys travel in style!

I did a US State Capital tour, then a European Capital City tour a while back. But yes, adding a purpose to a flight makes it that much more interesting, even if only to fly to an Indian Reservation for fireworks.

That FSEconomy outfit sounds intriguing!
