How Would My PC Handle P3D?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I was playing FSX this weekend and was flying from KBOS to KJFK. A short flight and one that I do once and a while. As I was on final at JFK, the game crashed randomly. No OOM. I soon came to realize how much FSX annoys me at times . It's like driving an old car: you'll never know when it'll stop working. I've been considering getting P3D for a long time (since it was in v1.X). How much would my PC benefit FPS-wise?

i5 3330

GTX 750ti

6GB 1600 RAM

1 TB HDD

I know it's meh, but it gets the job done. I currently run the following addons:

Several scenery/airport addons (FSDT, FlightBeam, Latin VFR, some photoreal scenery etc.)

FTX Global

REX Essentials + OD with 1024x1024 clouds

Several addon planes (all PMDG aircraft but the T7, Airbus X Extended, A2A C182, the Leonardo Maddog soon, CS757/707, and more)

WOAI traffic

I can get a stable 17-18fps at FSDT KJFK v2 in the NGX with REX running on a nice day. Most of my sliders are to the right except Autogen which I keep at normal and complexity which I keep on the third tick. Water is at low or medium 2x.

Can anyone give  me an idea of what my framerates would be like in P3D with similar settings and the same addons? If I end up getting P3D, I'll probably get the T7, NGX, and Airbus X Extended... my most used aircraft.

Thanks for any advice!

Graphics card is pretty light, but I suppose it depends on your in-sim settings.  Give it a try and let us know how it works out for you.  P3D offers a 60 day trial period so if you do not want to keep the app you can get a refund.

I have a very similar system, although a 650ti. I love Prepar3D, although sometimes I'd love a faster system too...

Here's a video recorded on this, for an idea of how it performs.

Edit: forgot to say, I prefer high visuals to fast framerates.

I have a similar system:

i5 3570 @ 3.4Ghz

GTX 650 Ti

8 Gb Ram

Mostly I fly GA aircraft like the A2A Cherokee, Milviz B55 and RealAir Duke Piston over ORBX FTX England or Global / OpenLC Europe and with ASN weather engine. Everything is smooth in P3Dv2.4 with these aircraft over open countryside or at small ORBX airports like Shoreham and Chichester Goodwood. Likewise for Global/OpenLC. The system struggles a bit if I fly into  complex airports like UK2000 Manchester or  Aerosoft  LFMN. Rainy weather in the open countryside is ok, but again even more of a struggle at complex airports. I am not really an FPS watcher, mostly just look for visual smoothness. When I do check FPS at the complex airports and in rain, it bounces from low teens to mid-twenties.

I plan to upgrade my system shortly: a new GPU first (considering the Nvidea 970). A more powerful CPU later. I think the 970 is still very good value for money even with the memory utilization problem above 3.5 Gb. It should still be a massive improvement over the 650 Ti and likewise the 750 Ti.

I am still using P3D v2.4 for the time being; will upgrade to v2.5 later when most of the issues are sorted and the addons are all onboard.

My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB  DDR4  RAMNoctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel     Sims: MSFS2020      Preferred Aircraft  Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049

Hmm.. I think I'll get it. Anybody else have an idea of how it'll run?

Try it for sure, best way to know how it will work on your system is to try it, if it's not for you then you can get a refund.
