Caution with Just Flight.

Vernon,I've read the posts and even if you can download and install again, you may not be out of the woods. Just Flight, if their method is consistent with their Tomahawk demo, adds a dll to your modules folder which is used to enforce the license. When you mentioned MSFS wouldn't start, this is what got me to thinking that you may have something conflicting with this module. What O/S are you running? If it is Win 98 still, you may have run into a problem. I am asking that because you mentioned your next purchase was going to be Windows XP.I have zipped backups of all of my payware. After every payware install, I analyze what files, reg keys and modules the purchase adds. Keep in mind most payware is tied to your specific hardware, but I know if I ever had to reinstall onto my same workstation, I easily could. It is worthwhile to become as expert as you can about how software is added to your system. It is expensive to depend on workstation techs--I know because that's part of what I do and I charge a fair amount to other cost centers within my company if they need my services. And I guarantee you sooner or later a tech will mess up--there's no school where they can be expert on all software. A good tech would have renamed the file causing your problem vs. uninstalling the entire package. meaning the package should still be there. In essence, you need to know everything a tech does to your system,. They can easily trash any payware you choose to have if they don't know MSFS very well, and you end up picking up the cost.-John

Yes John, I am still a W98se user. Cost so much to upgrade. Will soon though. The conflict as I understand was something amis on my computer that did not like something about the Seneca. We un-installed it and found everything OK. Un-installed it and had problems. Re-installed it and everything was good for a few days. Then problems showed up. Removed the plane, found the bad file and removed it too. Now, I cannot get the plane back after all this. A letter explaining the problems to Just Flight returned basically a 'Sorry Charley' you should have read the EULA closer. They are right about that. I have posted in their forums, feedback section, e-mail. No response for about 5 days now. Except the e-mail that said they got my money and stating that a new e-mail is comming with a NEW unlock code. I get a new code everytime I download. Cannot use one twice.I am so tired of this. I will quit now. Whatever happens will. You all can still talk about this, but I am done. With Just Flight too! I even asked them to honor their 100 percent satisfaction guaranty. No word there either. I am 50 years old and this is a past time for me. I do not need this. Thanks for listening.

Two words: RealAir Simulations. It's payware, affordable, the best quality anywhere, and the support is brilliant.I gave up with the others long ago.Edit- I've never used Just Flight, so I can't speak for them. This is NOT a dig at Just Flight!!James

OK. Today I got an e-mail from J.F. and it said that they are sorry for my problems and that the issue has been addressed. There are apparently issues with my e-mail that did not let me receive their initial response. If I have any more problems, let them know............................There was no unlock code provided in the e-mail!................Nor any instructions. Another e-mail shot back to them. I am not very confident here.

>Vendors need to be aware that it's the customers>who pay their salaries in the end.>While I understand what you are saying, and do agree with most of it, I do have a problem with this statement. Yes, customers pay salaries, yes vendors need to realize that not everyone is a computer wiz. The thing is, it is the customers who make it necessary for the vendors to control downloads like this.It goes both ways, without one, you don't have the other.

Hey there,Nice to see you are keeping a friendly attitude about your issue... so many people fly off the handle when they get problems.http://forum.justflight.com/forum/You probably have already posted there, but I thought I'd link anyway. I found the forum responsive when I had a problem with one of my JF products.I have to say, I tend not to bother with freeware so much these days unless it's something really outstanding... though I must say there's still plenty of good stuff around, that's for sure (got to hand it to you freeware developers... you really do some good stuff!). But I have bought myself a good bunch of payware gear from FSD, JustFlight, Flight1, realAir, Dreamfleet and they're all very good in my experience.Flight1 and FSD still stand out from the crowd IMO. yeah... you need an internet connection to install it first time around, but then I've always bought online, so I always have expected an online verification... makes sense, doesn't it?Personally, I blame the gits who pirate the stuff. If you need to be cynical about someone, make it them! Without them, we wouldn't have to jump through hoops to protect our developer friends.Try not to be put off by one experience... I haven't flown a freeware plane in FS for about two years!

Many times I have posted there. No response either. Very quiet place.

Did you download from JustFlight? Does their guarantee cover only downloads from its site? There was another thread recently where someone complained that he couldn't get his money back. The developer limited its guarantee to downloads from its site. The complainer had downloaded it from a cheaper site - he saved about

For all the folks that came to Just Flight's defence, I sure am dissappointed with my results. Still have no plane for my money, and I see very few responses in thier forums to anybody's questions. I am still waiting for someone to contact me about my situation. $22 out the window. :(

Update. I think it only fair to let you all know that I now have a supervisor contacting me about this issue. I still cannot unlock the plane with the supplied code. But I think I am now getting some service. Time will tell.

This sounds more like a strange technical problem on your system than Justflight itself. It also sounds like perhaps your emails spam filter or some other error is the reason for not hearing back so soon. Justflight seems to have a great name in the business so I think this is an anomoly. If you are still running Win 98 you may want to upgrade before getting anything else, as many new addons require windows XP, plus XP is far far more stable than 98 SE in my experience. It does require a quicker system though. Also as for an addon going "out of date" when FS9 came out - that is hardly the fault of the addon developer, come on. MS advertised FS9 was coming soon for several months ahead of release, and just because FS9 did come out doesn't mean you can't use that addon in 2002 still.

David,Good to hear from you again. I have no filters active at this time and I inspect every peice of mail as it comes in. I get the mails saying it is fixed, but until now, I have not received the mail with the code. I got a code yesterday from the Customer Service supervisor and it will not unlock the plane. It still thinks I am over on my unlocking allowances. I did not realize that I only bought the use of the plane for a while, I thought it was mine. Oops. Anyway, everything worked very well until the unlock codes ran out and now we just cannot seem to get another one to work. Of course, I am free to call their support line a half world away.

Firstly, sorry Vernon about your problems and thank you for making me aware of really stupid way of licencing programms Just Flights put in place. Definitelly I WILL NOT be buying from them or anybody with such policy. And don' give me crap about how it is pirates fault - punishing paying customers is not a way dealing with the issue. Allowing only three hardwarebound installations is wrong especially when the only lace where iti is mentioned is EULA - stuf 98% of peoples won't read hoping there is nothing really faul in it. At least I wont be expecting such a thing hidden there, why don't they just put it next to price? And then there is an issue of administrative fees for next install - hmmm is it 5 cents, one dollar or 200% of original price? - not a word about it there...well I am pretty much disapointed with them and happy that only thing I have from Just flight is PSS A320 on CD and there is no such cripling limitation on that - already reinstaled about 10 times. You know, some people are playing around their computers a lot continually upgrading, reinstalling and so on... OK ok... it is their right to put such policy in place, and also it is my right not to buy from them - a right I will exercise in this case.Anyway, no need to buy some payware GA when the only GA I am flying is Maule - which is for sure better then some payware planes - and is for free.Oh and another thing, for those blaming Vernon for having win 98 - here is something interesting from Just flight web site, product specifications for Seneca:Pentium III 1.7 GHz PC Windows 95/98/ME/XP 256Mb RAM - 512Mb For Windows XP.... no need to add anything! So, Vernon, wishing you better luck if you make another addon purchaseDan

Couldn't agree more with Dan and Vernon. If you say it is supported, then support it."no need to add anything!".

Just to answer an above post, yes I bought and downloaded from Just Flight's site.
