Hi Vernon,I'm sorry you had such a bad experience on your first attempt at purchasing payware, but hopefully you realize that payware publishers are not all alike, and a bad experience with one has absolutely no bearing on any future dealings you might have with another. For that matter, I've never had any trouble with Just Flight, so I'm surprised you had such a hard time.I've purchased a LOT of payware over the last few years, and with very few exceptions, all the transactions were completed smoothly and without issues. And the planes and scenery I've bought are still among my favorites, and see use nearly every day. I consider them a great investment for all the fun they return!I don't have anything against freeware, mind you ;-), but to say you won't buy payware again seems a tad rash after only one experience. Of course, I understand fully that sometimes it's the disappointment talking. Hang in there with JF, I've always found them to be very easy to deal with.thanks,

Bill,Thanks for your comments. I bought a program in FS2002 only to have it go out of date in 2 months when FS9 came out. Would have to pay full price again for that program and a bundled program with it that I did not want. I bought FS Nav for FS9 and it has been very good and looks to be around for a while.I bought this plane from J.F. and cannot get it back onto my hard drive.2 out of 3 is 66 percent failure. Not a good record. This is my 2nd week with J.F. problems.Yes, I probably will buy something again. But not before looking real hard at reviews of the supplier.

Was this a download via SimMarket? If so and you have remitted the download extension fee you may not hear from them. Just go into your account with your e-mail address and password, and check your download allowance. The limit may have been lifted for the year of extension.Keep in mind that it may take a day or so for them to act since this part is not automated.I have not had any problems with SimMarket that were not resolved. They were very helpful in restoring my download extension even when requested after the original purchase. Keep in mind they are only responsible for delivery of software.Once the download is completed your key is the order number you received in the confirmation of your original purchase. I do not recall when purchasing the later extension if that number changed.

Vernon, I too am sorry you had problems but while 2 out of 3 does equal about 66% it is also WAY too small a statistical sample to use in condeming the entire payware industry. If you knew what a huge problem piracy of copyrighted intellectual property is, you might not feel quite so badly about restrictions on multiple downloads. And while I have no idea what your computer problems might have been (and I hope they are all solved) experiencing as many as 3 download failures before getting the matter sorted out might understandably made JF wonder about why you didn't get the problem fixed before using up all your turns. But you certainly are correct that checking out the developers before making a purchase is a great idea. The issue though, is that J.F. is known to be one of the good ones, and checking them out in advance wouldn't have change your scenario. You still would have bought and you still would have had the same puter problems.IMHO, it is a little unfair to suggest that having experienced a single problem, you wouldn't buy payware any more...although you did take that back...which I think was the proper thing to do.Hope all goes well for you in the future.Regards,Jim

Just Flight are a reputable company, with excellent customer service. Although you've been as nice as pie here Vernon, somewhere down the line there is a truth we're not hearing. Not accusing you of being a liar, Vernon, just that we have heard your side of the story which is always likely to be a bit biased by your bad experience, wouldn't you agree? For example, you could tell us what the computer problems you were having were - we have a hardware forum for that and I dont recall seeing you posting there? Although I do seem to remember you''re still using the Jurassic period OS Win98SE. Have you upgraded yet? Dont' recall many replies to your request for info on that matter over at the JF forum. When you purchased the Seneca you knew there was an install limit, so frankly, if the developer decides not to exercise their power of discretion, you should have to pay to extend it. It's commerce, and it's the way it is. Not sure what the problem with reactivation might be, but you've had some pointers already. In the meantime, have you fixed those computer problems? Hope you get it sorted, but it isn't the aftermarket developers responsibility to get you a working computer, it's yours.Having said that, JF are not one of those `take the money and run` publishers that flit in and out of this hobby, so I'm sure as this thread runs, we'll find out a little more about your local difficulty and if nothing else, it might help a fellow simmer from getting in the same mess.Allcott"Fool me once, blame on you.Fool me twice, shame on you.Fool me thrice, shame on me."

Allcott,My problem was that when I installed the plane, FS would not load at all. I took a week trying to find the problem. Still not sure what was conflicting, but my repairman said there was some kind of conflict with another unused file on my computer. Went to re-install the plane another time and ran into the cownload limit. You cannot download the plane zip and keep it. You have to install from the download site directly. He fixed the problem and said to get the plane again. J.F. brags on their web site about a response in 24 hours. Going on 4 days today from the last forum post there.Yup, Windows XP will be my next purchase. When I purchased I did not know of the download limit. My fault. I did not read the whole EULA. However I have read other companys and they do not charge for re-licensing. Did not expect J.F. to. Again my fault. Won't happen again. While I may be biased, I have tried to relate facts and not emotions. Thanks all for listening.

Ahhh, bet you do buy some payware in the future. When downloading vs getting the package in the mail its absolutly important that everything be working on your computer--that includes a CD burner.I've ordered from them and many other on-line payware sellers and never ever had a problem. First thing I do when the download is done is burn the file to a CD-ROM and do the install from that disk to make sure of its integrity. Then I copy that file and other payware to a master disk that gets put away. Never had any problems, never had to go back later and look for "keys" or any other download code.David

David,That is part of the problem. I had no file to save. It is a direct installation only, from their site.

It's a sad trend that you need an online connection to activate some kind of software. The idea behind is to sell and distribute software "on demand" online. The good part is that the vendor has total control over the software, installations and whether it works or not (i.e. he could lock and unlock the software). This allows for proper charging. The bad thing is that too many of such mechanisms only respect the vendor's side and disregard the customer. Most customers aren't computer specialists, but the way such anti-crack procedures work are often way too complicated and too many times end in a situation where the customer needs to ring Santa Clause out of his bed in the middle of the year just to get the software working again. While I agree with any anti-theft policy, it's the duty of the vendors to not make the life of their customers harder with their software protection mechanisms. And that's exactly where many fail. Vendors need to be aware that it's the customers who pay their salaries in the end.The only way to force vendors to make a change is to not buy anything from them.I encountered bad software protechtion schemes numerous times during the last months, that's why I don't buy from e.g. FSD and many others.Flight1 for instance stand out of the crowd with their excellent wrapper and support. It never failed to me, it's secure, and easy on the other hand, and if you lock yourself out, you can restore your account online.I mean, that if I'm forced to be online during install (being online is NOT a normal way to use someones PC and NOT recommended because of many, many reasons (Viruses, Trojans, which you need to fight by installing additional programs which in turn slower your system performance, crash your game, need to be maintained by updates etc. etc.)!) I can at least expect that the installer works easily and flawlessly.Just my 2 cent.Andreas

I was looking for such a list. Its too overwhelming to go search in the download section with 1000s of files and not knowing which is good and which is not.BTW.. Thanks for that list.

i've been buying stuff from Just flight for years, in fact much longer than i have ever done withany other payware. I intend waiting untill they release the CD before getting the flying club. I have allways been able to get quick and reliable support both online and via e-mail, and in my expereince their postal service is second to none.oh yea and for many being conected to the net is a normal state of affairs; mine is networked into the internet and is conected to the net all the time, i can even surf the net in safe mode.

Have you tried posting on their forums? Perhaps your or the their emails are not getting through.Tony
