Anyone flying Capt Sim's 707?

Featured Replies

Did you expect to get $30M professional simulator for $30? It's amazing, how some people want a whole world for their several bucks. Yesterday I bought a TOY car for my son for almost $50. Do you think have I got accurate fuel/distance readings, speed and temperature? Right, there's no instrumens at all! :) Should I write a letter to the toy manufacturers and charge them for the simplification? :-lol

"Did you expect to get $30M professional simulator for $30?" What a childish statement with no bearing whatsoever on the present discussion. The people complaining about the CS 707 have legitimate complaints about systems--the autopilot for instance--that don't work as advertised and not only poor customer support but outright snotty responses by the CS team. There are a number of issues with the CS 707, and as CS have shut down their own boards and refused to address them they end up being discussed here. And as a lot of people are fed up with CS it quite naturally becomes a flame fest. Maybe your TOY car does what it was advertised to do, but the CS 707 dosn't. billg

I expect the new $30-$50 simulators to meet or exceed the bar set by Flight 1 DF and PMDG. If they don't, they won't get my money. CS does not come close. What is sad it that CS 707 could be a great plane with just a little more effort, (we are not asking for the world) but they are not willing to fix it. That is what seperates the high quality, great flight sim companies from the wanna-be's.

>I am contemplating the purchase of a 707 and am wondering if>any of you folks are flying it and would be willing to give me>your evaluation.>>I am one who loves the classics... mostly because that's what>I flew. Have tried a couple of freeware 707s but there is>little reality in them so thought I'd look at some payware.>>Thanks!>>donmacI'd be happy to share my opinion:The product definitely has potential. The visuals are outstanding. Problems:1) As others have mentioned, the autopilot is buggy. Once engaged, pitch changes don't work very well; the airplane has a tendency to bob up and down, like a ganja-smoking reggae singer. 2) Their "load manager" is buggy as well. You're supposed to use it to load the plane up with fuel, but if you do, the load manager will empty out the outer wing tanks, which means you can't start the engines. So you have to use FS9's fuel manager. 3) Some of the stuff from CS's 727 release has been ported over to the 707, e.g., you'll hear references to three engines (Lol, did we just drop an engine on the tarmac?)4) The "manual" is a joke and is almost completely worthless. It amounts to a sum total of about 30 pages, with absolutely 0 informational content and certainly no information on how to actually fly this plane.5) Given that it is a fairly complex aircraft, a forum would be badly needed. Such a forum actually existed, with great help available. CS decided that it didn't like the criticisms that were made and decided to shut it down. As I've said in a previous post: why Captain Sim is allowed to hawk their products here and on other sites is completely beyond me. FYI, I own the following, now dust-collecting, CS products:-707727-Starfighterricardo

Paul, I have to agree with you. That site is not a good source for review. It seems the people they have either don't know even the basics about planes, or just want to be nice to everybody (well, with some exceptions at the wrong times). AVSIM, to me, is the only reliable source for reviews. I don't visit any other sites, so can't comment on them.regards,Macs

It is abvious no one would expect such a thing, but one could expect some reasonably well done product that is certainly attainable, as other PAYWARE companies have succesfully done. And since CS claims:-"The 2D panels include more than 2200! programmed bitmaps! They simulate many hundreds of operative elements (pointers, flags, switches, lights, indicators)!" -"Most systems are programmed in accordance with B707 Manuals and tested by pilots and engineers."I would assume this product would be a real technical gem.I already worte to them and they already wrote me back with the same remarks as always: obvious lies and basically the same argument as you make above. I kept my mouth shut on the 727 (which I don't even fly anymore), since I wanted to give them a chance back then. I thought with a bit of time, they will get better, but I can see they haven't. I'd rather not have bought it, so as far I am aconcerned, I don't care if they make any more add-ons or not. From the video they released some time ago, I assume they must be some aeronautical luminaries, so I am sure they will not be worried about bringing bread to their households if CS fails. :-(regards,MacsP.S.: I'm angry again after trying to look at the bright side of the 707. I just cannot see getting any enjoyment out of it.
