June 28, 200520 yr I am contemplating the purchase of a 707 and am wondering if any of you folks are flying it and would be willing to give me your evaluation.I am one who loves the classics... mostly because that's what I flew. Have tried a couple of freeware 707s but there is little reality in them so thought I'd look at some payware. Thanks!donmac
June 28, 200520 yr I have it and I love it. Not an easy bird to fly at all.Lots of liveries for it too.Excellent package all together, I recommend it.
June 28, 200520 yr After all what I've read about CS's 727 and 707, I wouldn't buy any.Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
June 28, 200520 yr Before you go buy this one go check out the DC-8's and 707's over at HJG. Historic Jetliners Group. http://www.simufly.com/hjg/ They have sounds and effects plus a great forum. I highly recommend it for the classic jets. Multitudes of repaints too. On top of that it's all FREE! :)Hornit

I have had no experience with Capt Sim's products so am grateful for the feedback.I actually fly some of the jets from HJG but don't care for the 707-349 they have in Flying Tigers colors. They use the default 737-400 panel and sounds... and that makes it nothing like a 707! I'll have to go back there and see if I can find a panel and sounds that I can use in that particular livery.donmac
June 28, 200520 yr Donmac, the 707's autopilot, among other things, is buggy and there is no patch in sight--it's been out for a year or so and no word from CS on when or if they're going to fix it. And they have no forums. If you have a question about anything, and as it is a fairly complex aircraft questions are inevitable, you have to send them an email and wait for a response. That being said, I do fly circuits with it once in a while as it's kind of fun, but it's not suitable for using as an airliner simulator. The HJG aircraft are great. And there are panels and sounds on their website. If you're interested in classic airliners I'd also check out the Dreamfleet 727 and the Ready For Pushback 747-200. Both are classics in RL and in FS9. Good luck!billg

I had not heard about that particular one. It appears that if CS was being weighed in the balances as a result of this thread, they would be found wanting. Guess I better not go there.I do have the DF 727 and like it very much. I think if I am going to pay for a 747 I'll wait for PMDG to release theirs. I also have the 737NG series... it is very well done and has a sophisticated FMC. As an aged, retired, professional pilot, the older airplanes that require the ability to hand fly with precision, using a simple autopilot simply to relieve the boredom of long range cruise flight, is what recalls the great memories and brings (at least to me) the true enjoyment of flight.Donmac

June 28, 200520 yr Donmac, I'm looking forward to the PMDG 747 too. However, the RFP 747-200 is an entirely different beast. One of the larger freight companies that fly cargo 747-200's actually use it for flight training because of the accurate systems representation. And they have a great Virtual Cargo Airline as well that is kind of fun. You might want to check out their forums just to get a feel for it--it's an awesome aircraft if you like older stuff. What did you fly? My dad was a pilot in the canadian airforce so I grew up around airplanes. He always said it was not just the flying it was the comraderie and the sounds and smells of the flight line that he loved. I kind of rue the day I didn't go that route but I get my fix with FS9. :-)

June 28, 200520 yr good comments billg. I own CS707 but never had any problem with the autopilot so I'm always a bit baffled about what specifically is the problem with it.The package has three different models, one of which is an AWACS model if you like, and a nice BOAC and Air France. I can't barrel-roll it like Tex Johnson did but maybe you can.The panels are artfully done. The gauges can be hard to read. I don't get the impression the systems are modeled to a great depth. The flight model certainly gives the impression of flying a heavy aircraft.I can't comment on user support because I have never had to contact a vendor (except Flight1 for the usual revalidation of expired license). With CS707, it worked on my system fine from the get-go. I think they have issued one service pack update, but nothing recently.Personally, I like it. I you do choose to get it, I hope you will find it to your taste!
June 28, 200520 yr yes, thank GOD they don't have a VC. That would be horrible. its much more fun using default sounds and a panel or a semi-accurate 2d panel that looks like a post card. Lets all go live in the dark ages!

I was a beta tester and the AP is nothing like the real one. It may appear to work ok but it is far from realistic. Needs a big fix in my opinion.>>The package has three different models, one of which is an>AWACS model if you like, and a nice BOAC and Air France. I>can't barrel-roll it like Tex Johnson did but maybe you can.CS should stick with model building and let the experts do the gauge and system programming. They are very good at the models.>>The panels are artfully done. The gauges can be hard to read.> I don't get the impression the systems are modeled to a great>depth. The flight model certainly gives the impression of>flying a heavy aircraft.I find it interesting that very few people noticed that the overhead panel is bashed together from their earlier 727 and doesn't even resemble a 707 overhead panel. Look at all those hydraulic flight control shut-off switches. Funny thing.... the 707 has no powered elevators or ailerons.... oh well. Can't say I didn't mention it as a tester though.>>I can't comment on user support because I have never had to>contact a vendor (except Flight1 for the usual revalidation of>expired license). The lack of support as well as fixes makes this a no-go.Cheers,JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
