July 5, 201510 yr I also remember those excellent water droplet effects on the windscreen and side windows when it was raining, the sound effects as a thunderstorm passed overhead and rain battered down on the roof of my plane, and the wonderfully atmospheric graphics as low cloud and mist partially obscured distant hills and mountains. Some of the graphics and effects were really ahead of their time. Prepar3D 2.x is the only sim that has the same kind of volumetric fog as FU3. FSX and X-Plane both use the same kind of linear fog that 3D games have used since the mid 1990's. The sky in FU3 wasn't a texture, it was actually dynamically calculated based on time of day, visibility, altitude etc. The ATC in FU3 was amazing and sounded way better than FSX's. FU3 always felt special for some reason,I'm not sure why. I think I may install it on my old windows Vista laptop and see if I can get it working. The ATC in FU3 sounded more natural and less robotic than FSX/P3D. Also, I think for VFR it was more detailed and realistic, with more phrases and procedures. The series got real-time ATC in FU2 in 1997, while FS didn't get it until FS9 in 2004. -

July 5, 201510 yr The road not taken. One wonders where flight simulation might be now, if Looking Glass had not folded. http://ttlg.com/articles/lgsclosing.asp We are all connected.....
