August 4, 201510 yr Don't give up this sim takes a lot of user work - it's not much different than fs - takes time to get the proper scenery aircraft and utilities installed Good advice. I focused on a couple of scenery areas and gathered the packages for just those 2 areas. Then focused on just a couple of planes with which I was already familiar thru FSX. With as many "knowns" in place as possible, was then comfortable going into the unknowns. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

This is probably the best advice. Alot of people forget that they have 3-10 years or more on FSX to bring it to the level that they have it now and then try to switch and bring X-Plane in one evening to the same level and get frustrated fast.
August 5, 201510 yr Author Commercial Member In using the demo I look for things that I cannot see or find in FSX. So far the nights are far better in X-plane but the days are about the same. I fly it for short time each day trying to use new things and find out as much as I can about the program. The detail of the nights just might make this a night flyer and use FSX for days. August 5, 201510 yr Night flying in X-Plane is the best immersion I've ever had in a flight simulator. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.
August 5, 201510 yr Commercial Member So far the nights are far better in X-plane but the days are about the same. Night flying is something I rarely ever did in FSX; in X-Plane however, I'll take off shortly before dusk just so that I can arrive at night. It's wonderful. However, daytime flying can be really superb as well - the key is using RTH - RealTerraHaze. It brings the realistic depiction of the horizon to another level. Also, I vastly prefer XP for daytime flying in mountainous / rugged regions, especially when flying VFR at lower altitudes. Comapred to FSX, it's far more crisp and realistic looking.
