  1. If you have the 1.01 installer savedand use the 1.06 code to update wont it just update to that ?
  2. Are you using the demo ? then it will take over after a while
  3. alfamike gave a good tip. do what he says and post the log, then we can check
  4. you know, the sentence " did you restart your pc" in tech support doesnt exsist to only harass customers Never underestimate the DAUs
  5. well i guess me with glasses is at a disadvantage vs. people with no glasses. But in general the displays do get warm and the "looking through swim goggles" effect of the small displays is tyring for me after a certain amount of time. Funnily enough, when i first tried it, i was blown away by it and thought aswell it was the future of everything, but after a few hours using it, the novelty wears off and you start to realize where the flaws are. I mean this is still first gen, i can see the potential but 3-4 years down the road is where i see some real use for flightsimming.
  6. it's not that they cant do it. It's that they built it three times from the ground up and everytime it got torn down by changes either in the opengl sdk, or changes in the devkit. So they said they will wait until it matured for a while. Also the OpenGL SDK for the Occulus is a rather underrepresentated SDK to put it politely. Having tried the Vive (for flightsim) and the occulus for gaming, i can totally understand why you will wait for the technology to mature. Its a nice wow, but unless you like gliders or other GA that doesn't require lots of cockpit interaction, the resolution is simply not high enough and more than 30 minutes of wearing them is not really comfortable. Plus using things like charts or other navigation tools is nigh on impossible (apart from some virtual windows like flyinside).
  7. Well you rang the "let's show the world what a lovely bunch flightsimmers are" bell, loud and clear Now they are all showing up
  8. i think it was on the release stream of the 767, phillip münzel said that laminar was suprised how successful the gateway was and that it is something that they would look into for regionalized data
  9. Well that is not really a secret and if you watch the forum you will exactly know what was meant This are probably the details that still need ironing out
  10. i know there are it was merely a comment regarding the it's one click and everything is the same quality as payware photoscenery.
  11. i am asking again sethos. With all your experience with photoscenery. Did you have no problems with different colours, saturation, contrast with each tile ? Did you never have to manually edit the photoscenery files ?
  12. Sethos, did you create all your states with a few clicks and had no issues in the complete state like different colors, saturation, contrast etc.? Did you have no problems with airports? Was it one click and you are done ? I am interested, because my experience is different and i would like to know what you are doing different.
  13. jamming mobile phone signals in a building is easy. Jamming directed signals (that are 100x more stronger than mobile phone signals) to satelites, on planes tens of kilometers away from you and you do not know the location from, is nigh on impossible and will always be. Plus you still have the option of the playing flying autonomous.
  14. The drain on resources wouldnt be that big. The public opinon, when pilots die or are captured, is far more important. Once you remove the pilot, the public doesnt really care about what you do, because they have no connection to the place of war. Just look at the U.S. Drone Operations in the Middle East, noone cares alot about them. If they shoot down a drone, than it barely makes the news. If a pilot dies or worse gets captured and dragged through the media, all hell breaks loose. For that reason alone the next generation fighters will loose their pilotseat
  15. i dont mean this in a bad way: it is fun watching you over the years getting hyped about a product, loving it to bits, then starting to realize its shortcommings, then getting frustrated again, then uninstalling it and repeating the cycle Well OrbX is amazingly beautiful, no point in denying that. But for a lot of people, me included, its simply to expensive for a good coverage. Its easy to spent few hundred bucks on scenery from them. That is the beauty of x-plane. You can get 80% of OrbX quality for free, in some places even the same, but it does require effort and its understandable that people dont wan't to bother with that task
  16. Just an Info, this is an relic from FSX/P3D. X-Plane doesn't care where you put the folder. You can even close x-plane, move the folder onto another HDD, and then start x-plane again like nothing happend (well apart from some third party drm that might need reactivating)
  17. Steam is really interesting to get it when it is on sale. Other than that you can easily get it through their website.
  18. Its largely dependent on the developing team and their willingness to learn new stuff. You can also read "mature software" as code that isnt changing alot and i have an easy time maintaining it. Oposed to learning a complete new system, getting good at it and maintaining a multiplattform environment. Sure it can be brought down to profitabillity, if you calculate the time in to learn something new it will never break even
  19. like tony said it is not necessarily more complicated. the main difference however is the speed at which everything can go south Basically a 737 is about 4 times faster than a C172 and therefore you only have 1/4th of the time to make the right decision. This is what makes things seem complicated. But if you start with easy managable flights it is doable
  20. have you tried the latest versions with improved angine failure management ? I mean the a2a are indeed still a step upwards from them but i am curious as to what qualifies as a trainer exactly.
  21. All Carrenado planes with the REP Package so currently: C210 + REP V35B + REP F33A + REP also the airfoillabs C172 is a great plane
  22. There are a few things that i would suggest as a must - HD-Mesh V3, this is bascially a replacement of the original mesh. It doesnt have complete world coverage, so if you want to fly in places that it doesnt have coverage you need to still download the scenery on steam. You can check the map on what is available http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-mesh-scenery-v3/#Mirrors-Torrents - World2Xplane, if you love buildings and trees everywhere and want to torture your cpu and gpu, this is the way to go forward. Great addon, but it can put your sim to a grinding stuttering halt. - RTH, Real Terra Haze that changes the art controls of the sim and makes it look more beautiful - NOAA Plugin, just an improved weather injector and the cheapest way to get global winds aloft (until 10.5 is released) - HD Clouds, if you want to improve the stock clouds abit. - Aiports are "stock lego airports" in alot of places, quite decent if you just want to fly there once. Other than that just google the .org site for pretty much all airports in the world. As a treat i can recomend pretty much all airports from misterx, they are true masterpieces that stand the comparison to most expensive payware airports in fsx/p3d and he does them for free. A last thing, please if you have the finances and like some of the things that i mentioned, consider donating to the people that create these gems. It helps this great community to grow and flourish Regarding Performance the original handbook is pretty good resource to learn how to optimize the sim. alot of people do not read that though
  23. this is a only halfway true. More cores is indeed better however with a big caveat. You need to have GhZ. a 12 core with 3.2 ghz will give less performance than a 6 core with 3,8 GhZ. X-Plane is not really using multithreading to its fullest. The First core is still used the most and is the limiting factor for all other cores.
  24. This is not FSX, therefore you can have everything in your sceneryfile. x-plane will load only what you need. The loading times is because x-plane is loading everything ahead of time and therefore you dont have the blurries like you have in fsx/p3d. The downside is the longer waiting times. Appart from going to SSD or atleast a fast HDD there is little you can do. 15 minutes does seem a little bit long though, usually i am around 5 ish minutes. ps: just for clarification, are you talking about starting x-plane or loading a plane and starting at an airport ?
