NEW SYSTEM (scenery texture)

Featured Replies

Hello

I am in the process of setting up my new FSX STEAM system, all is going well.  I have a few payeware airports  and various utilities

I will not be doing a lot of VFR flying but have been looking at payware software which provide scenery textures.  I am looking for software that improves the default textures but no over expensive.

I have been looking at FTX GLOBAL  very nice but can mount up in price with the different additions.

Any personal preferences or advice on any other scenery texture software would be most welcome

I use FTX Global + FTX Vector.

Unless you're doing low and slow VFR flying the regions aren't of too much use, and can drastically increase VAS use, which can cause out of memory errors, as our aircraft do take up a decent amount of VAS as well.

I use GEX + UTX from Flight1 myself and also have FTX Global.   I have put both through the ringer and I think in the end, GEX+UTX comes out on top for performance/VAS usage vs. the competition.   I also like their color palette better.   Both are strong products though.   GEX is regional based (unless you are flying on P3D like me, then you have GEX WORLD, which covers the whole planet like FTX Global) so may cost a little more to get the whole planet on FSX.  I don't think there is a global GEX for FSX yet.

I have installed GEX + UTX  but not very impressed and dissapointed with the quality even with all the settings set to maximum I was hoping for better

I have been looking at FTX GLOBAL very costly but is it much better.

I have installed the demo Iceland package, I like it.  Can anyone inform me if the demo Iceland package is typical quality of the entire Global package?

If so I was thinking of purchasing FTX GLOBAL & VECTOR and possibly Europe LandClass.  (cost me at least £100)  My system can take it as I have i7 processer and GTX 950 Graphics card and 16Gb Ram

Is it worth the pressure on my wallet? I have purchased a high spec system  I want to use the specs to their best performance

advice and experience most welcome

FSX STEAM

I have all FTX Global, all FTX North America regions, Europe Ireland and England and Vector. I love it and always use it with caveats.

The regions and vector will consume all your VAS if you don't actively manage it, you have to be involved and using Scenery Editor (must have shareware tool). Your system specs are not the constraint, but the 4Gb limit really is and you should be willing to learn about it and respect it.

I put it off for years because I'm not a VFR low altitude pilot and assumed it wouldn't make any difference at FL360...   well, it does. For example, the Northern California coastline (a very beautiful place) looks darned good with all the estuarys, wetlands, beaches bays and rivlets realistically displayed below. Very nice.

Hello Dan, I think I have figured a way for FTX Norcal and the new Flightbeam KSFO and the NGX. It is a beauty arriving the Bay Area from the Flight Levels.
