DX10 Preview Button Missing?!

Featured Replies

So the other day I was flying around normally when I experienced the old out of memory error and I had to close FSX. This struck me as odd as I've only had this issue in DX9 mode, which is why I bought the DX10 Fixer and have been using the DX10 Preview. So I assumed I must have accidentally turned the preview mode off in the setting and when I went to check, I don't even have the Preview DX10 button there anymore! I have the acceleration pack installed so I know it should be there and it has been as I've been using it! I've tried repairing my install using the discs, reinstalling directx, rolling back my drivers incase an update caused a problem and nothing has helped. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions as to what may be causing the issue?

Thanks,
Matt

Welcome Matt,  :He He:  to the asylum known as AVSIM. I read your thread title (if only they were all so descriptive) and thought Ahah! I know the answer to that one. B)

Wrong. I just read through your post again and the only thing I would do would be to re-install Acceleration.

Sorry I can't be more help. More will be along very soon.

P.S. Don't start off with 'So'

Make sure your video card is up-to-date.  If it cannot find a DX10 compliant video card, you cannot use DX10 and FSX will not show the preview button.  In addition to Ron's suggestion, I would reinstalled your video card as it makes sure the proper directx programs are installed and up to date.

In my case, "my" DX10 Preview button went missing due to an incompatible SweetFX version (basically the .dll files were the reason) after upgrading from W7 to W10. As soon as I completely deleted all files related to SweetFX out of my FSX folders, the DX10 Preview button was back and working.

Thank you very much everyone for your replies and suggestions, I tried all three options to be safe and discovered that it was my SweetFx version that caused the problem for me, so it is sorted now!

PS. Sorry Ron, do not understand what wrong with so, English is not my first language, I have to keep looking for translation and asking a friend for help to build the sentences so it takes me some time. Glad you were able to understand what I wrote however!

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Start with 'So' is superfluous as it sounds as though you're continuing with a subject as opposed to starting a subject.

But top marks for trying. Whatever your native tongue is I'm sure I couldn't do as well.

I am pleased that someone came along with a solution to your problem though.

So I was having exactly the same problem as the OP. I Google it and lo and behold I pitched up here! Prior to this I rolled back my video drivers, resorted to a system restore, gnashed my tooth and generally got upset at losing my cockpit shadows.

Reading through this thread made me go check my drivers again. Downloaded the latest (372.54) installed them and bingo! Got my shadows back.

Now snacking contentedly on a carrot. (happy bunny)

P.S. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but hey, where else would I post it?

I'm not sure that a ten month period allows you to start off with 'so'. ;-)

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

If you are using the DX10 Fixer, be sure to have HD Shadows selected for all AC.  Steve somewhere fixed his HD shadows for all AC in a recent release (it was broken for a long time).  It is a HUGE improvement in the shadow rendering quality.  Enjoy!
