Re : Where to install an SSD Physically !

Featured Replies

I have one of these. I used to have both of mine hang in the case, but I did occasionally get disconnected drives which ended up not being recognized on boot up. After buying the enclosure, there hasn't been any issues.

I completed a recent system build including SSDs.  I chose the case below because of its ventilation capabilities and the fact that it has dedicated Slip and Clip SSD mounts. Scroll on the linked page to the Slip and Clip segment. Beyond that, as others have mentioned, with the right sized tray adapters you can mount 2.5" SSDs into 5.25 or 3.5 inch bays as well.

Then I used a 5.25 front accessible bay to mount the Hot Swap Rack you see if you follow the second link below. This allows for easy insertion of 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch SSDs or HDDs for backup or cloning purposes. I routinely clone my 500GB SSD system drive, which includes my OS and flight sim.  The door/latch mechanism for the 2.5 inch bay is small, thus a bit fragile, so I am particularly careful with it. But this all makes for a really flexible system. As mentioned I run a 500GB SSD for OS and flight sim, and a 250GB SSD for data storage (I am an avid photographer) and have 512GB and 256GB  SSDs I use as the clones. (I use slightly different sized SSDs to make it easier to ID when cloning, so I don't clone in the wrong direction)

Hey All,

Never did I Expect the Flood of Knowledge - that this thread has received - It has certainly quenched My Thirst for Information - I think the Mod's should consider it a "Sticky" - as SSD's are certainly becoming a bigger part of Our Flight Sim Experience - and - as I have found out - there is a Lot to be Learned  - before You even Buy One !! - Thanks again to Every One  Who Contributed !

In regard to the original question, mounting is no big deal. As Ryan said, you can even Velcro them somewhere if you like. They aren't heavy like a mechanical drive.
