Sure, but I registered here because I expected to participate in many discussions instead of just asking one question :) I don't like the idea of registering to a board, posting one question, maybe one or two follow-ups, and then never showing up again. I also don't have the time to "remain active" or "keep tabs" on dozens of boards. The same goes for your boards, of course. Except that in your (Eaglesoft's) case I can't even read the boards to find out what others are writing about your products.Mind you, this is not a snap on your wrists - I don't mean to say that I object to developers having their own (in some cases private) boards. I just don't want to register to n+1 forums :)

As much as I'm looking forward to the Cirrus, credit card in hand, what actually interests me more is the Liberty - have you got a timeline on that product yet Ron, and will it feature the FADEC that is the USP for this particular aircraft? I was over in the `States recently close to Hagerstown and was hoping to find a test flight to see how it compares to the Europa I've got some time in, as the Liberty has entered production and now has IFR certification but business intervened and I got no flying in at all other than on 757's as a passenger and one memorable experience on a Jet Ski on rough water!. I love jet ski's - hate 757's ! :( Allcott

Hmm, your choice of course...just doubt that you'll find help on a specific product without dropping in at the developers forum...seems they would no more about it since they built it:-)As for ours being private...it isn't...just like these forums we require registration and login in order to keep out those who cause problems for us or our customers:-)

We demonstrated our alpha model of the Liberty Aerospace XL2 to the good folks at Libery Aerospace while at Osh Kosh a few weeks back and they were very pleased with what they saw:-)Of course the FADEC will be modeled as well as the sim allows and the Liberty Aerospace test pilots will be offering feedback for flight dynamics and all the other features as well. You may of course find more in our own forums and check the thread called Osh Kosh b'gosh 2005 in the pilots lounge:-)

>As for ours being private...it isn't...just like these forums>we require registration and login in order to keep out those>who cause problems for us or our customers:-)I wouldn't compare them to AVSim's, since you're not required to register here in order to READ messages, only to post.Requiring registration for posting messages is one thing and I agree that it helps keep forums cleaner, but you do realize that EagleSoft's forums can't even be READ without registering first? In my opinion that has nothing to do with keeping the forums clean as anonymous readers without post access can't cause problems in the first place. I'm not sure if it's intentional, though; could be an error on the administrator's part? :)

Requiring registration and login to support forums in order to read threads is quite common these days and we feel it is good policy:-)

>Why?Oh, perhaps so people who didn't actually buy the model they are flying don't get "free tech support?" :-roll

So you have to prove you've bought a model before you can get even read-only access that forum? If so, then to revise your post: "perhaps so people who are thinking about buying the model don't see the comments of those who've already bought it"

Like it or not, that's the way people will feel regardless of the developers' true intentions (which might very well have nothing to do with hiding ugly facts). This is why not allowing normal read-only access to regular visitors is a bad move from a PR standpoint, no matter how "common" it is (in my experience it is VERY uncommon, mind you).As someone already said, the developers' website / forums is the most likely place to get information on their products, so why make it unnecessarely difficult? Wouldn't it be great if people could simply read the board and possibly find answers to their questions, than force them to register for an account which is one step closer to the 100th "Why doesn't X work?" thread? Not to mention the fact that it makes people second-guess the developers' motives on other discussion boards, hijacking completely unrelated threads (*COUGH*) :D

"As someone already said, the developers' website / forums is the most likely place to get information on their products, so why make it unnecessarely difficult?"Our question is....what is unnecessarely difficult about registering and loggin into a forum?? :-) You did so here? :-)If registering and logging in is a hardship for someone we may try to accomodate them....but if you have questions about what goes on in our forums....register and login...takes 20 seconds:-)

If you're that paranoid about registering and logging in, use a false id and a temporary e-mail address! And seek professional help at an early opportunity. This is truly ridiculous, a thread about registering and logging in -in a forum that requires registering and logging in! If what is being suggested is that registering and logging is somehow a way to avoid displaying disadvantageous posts so that potential customers can see them, then do try to explain the existence of this and many other general sim forums, please. Because I thought that's what these places are for!Allcott

I can honestly say that I tried, but if you guys choose to ignore the answers I've provided to your questions in my previous posts I'm certainly not going to start repeating myself just to indulge you.Maybe some other topic will prove to be less problematic. Thanks anyway,

Look forward to seeing you in the Eaglesoft forums!Allcott

You said previously "Requiring registration and login to support forums in order to read threads is quite common these days and we feel it is good policy."You still haven't answered my question - why is it good policy?
