October 31, 201510 yr I am having a very strange problem. In the past few days when I fly in the UK and Ireland (Dublin) I have no AI showing. But it's working normally everywhere else - Europe, North America, Middle East etc. I have tried isolating various traffic files thinking one might be corrupted but it didn't make any difference. I can hear ATC communications with AI aircraft flying airways, approaches etc. over the UK but there is zero radio traffic on ground frequencies and towers. I have tried turning off aircraft shadows etc. - no effect. The weird thing is that all traffic everywhere else is absolutely normal - including aircraft that have departed from or are leaving for the UK. The only British airport where I still have AI traffic operating is the Channel Islands - EGJJ. Everything else throughout the UK, whether addon or default airports are completely empty. Across the channel - France, Belgium, Holland etc. are all normal Any suggestions? I've tried every logical thing I can think of. Thanks Ian
October 31, 201510 yr Sounds very much like you have a rogue FS9 traffic file operating in that region. Are you certain that you have NO traffic while operating in the UK area? You can use AIFP to help in finding FS9 traffic files in your system, and also be sure to check any addon scenery around the UK that may include a traffic file formatted for FS9 as well. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
October 31, 201510 yr Author Thanks Dave. I did use AIFP to run a check but I didn't think about checking scenery packages that might have an FS9 traffic file tucked away. I can't be certain I have NO traffic in the UK area but I've tried airports in various parts of the country, north, south, east and west and nothing showed up at any of the ones I tried, though as I said, there is ATC radio communication taking place except on tower and ground frequencies. I'll keep digging. It's definitely got me puzzled - I've solved a lot of FS glitches over the last decade or so and this is one of the weirdest.. Cheers Ian
October 31, 201510 yr Another option as AIFP isn't a sure fire way to search for FS9 traffic files is to remove all of your known AI then start adding them back in small groups. Check the sim with each group every time and you should be able to narrow it down. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
November 1, 201510 yr Author Thanks Dave. That's exactly what I did and I finally tracked the culprit down. Everything working again. It turned out there were a couple of FS9 files that had "snuck" in there and that's why my previous efforts to isolate the problem didn't work - I had to take a more thorough approach just as you suggested....
November 1, 201510 yr Excellent news! Good to hear. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
November 1, 201510 yr @kiwiflyer , Maybe an idea to let others know what did cause the problem - might save them some time if having a similar " problem " . John
November 1, 201510 yr Moderator @kiwiflyer , Maybe an idea to let others know what did cause the problem - might save them some time if having a similar " problem " . John John, he told us what caused the problem. He had an FS9 flight plan that had "snuck" in and was causing the issue. He also explained how he found it using Dave's instructions of process of elimination. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 1, 201510 yr Yes I was aware that an FS9 flightplan was the culprit , naming the flightplan itself gives others a " fighting chance " when they encounter the same problem . It's like going to a travel agents and asking to book a holiday without saying where you want to go , or when . Without ALL the information anyone else still knows only that an FS9 flightplan caused the problem , not which one . John
November 1, 201510 yr Except that every setup is different and most traffic filenames are different as well. AIFP can convert FS9 traffic files over but not everyone will have the same results. A rogue FS9 traffic file for you or me doesn't mean it will be the same for others. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
November 2, 201510 yr Didn't realise I was asking too much , it's not like it's the first time that someone ( suddenly ) discovers that FS9 flightplans don't work in FSX without being converted ( as if there are no other posts here on AVSIM on this very subject ) . How many threads start here with ... I downloaded an aircraft and it doesn't work ... without naming several crucial points , mainly the name of the download and where it was downloaded from . As I wrote earlier , it's great that the OP has found the solution to his problem , just that it doesn't help anyone else who may have downloaded the same flightplans . That the answer is to download , install and run AIFP ( after installing any flightplans ) is possibly just not known to other users and that should have been more prominent as the solution . John

It's not asking too much if it's going to help. With the great majority though in those cases, the download works fine. It's the user that doesn't add it to the sim correctly. As said before, the title of the downloaded flightplan more than likely doesn't have anything to do with why it wasn't converted to FSX/P3d format. Naming a file as bad when it isn't only lead's to more confusion without actually helping. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
