Migration?

Featured Replies

I've been away from Prepard3d for several months.  In that time v3 has been released and looks like its been confirmed to be a step up from v2.5.

I wish to move to v3 but the thought of installing all my addons again makes my head spin.  I did notice that Flight Estonia has a migration tool but they say v3 support is still in development.

Is there any other options other than wiping and doing a complete re-install of the sim and scenery, aircraft, airports, etc??

Just do a complete reinstall just to avoid trouble. No matter what some people claim. EMT does NOT work properly with v3. But as usual some people know better than the developers.

Unless you're short on hard drive space, there's the very simple option of keeping your 2.5 installation, installing 3.0 and the addons that work with it, and then just fly in whatever of the two versions that has the addons you need for your current flight.

Personally speaking,  i would always do a full clean Install,  start a fresh. Everything nice and new, no left overs from previous stuff. That's just me though,  everyone has there own little ways.

Regarding the EMT Tool

If you know what your doing and understand your taking a risk well then use the EMT tool.   It works fine for me porting over my fighter planes and EZdok,  i don't use it for anything else.

I'm still keeping my 2.5 which I know works well, just being cautious for now.

Another question.  If I have Prepard v2.5 installed and I install v3 will the installer migrate the v2.5 settings, such as controller config, video etc??

I'd like to keep my controller settings?

No.

3.0 is not an upgrade or a migration from 2.5. There are new control settings in 3.0 (avatar controls for example), and new graphics settings (different HDR settings), so there is no automatic migration of any old settings in 2.5 to 3.0. They are separate programs that are configured separately.
