September 4, 200520 yr Everyone,The DAFIF site at NGA seems to be dead. I was going to try out FS Commander 7.5 (which uses DAFIF), but the link, though it works, gives you an error (not a IE one, but a site one). So, I know the end of public access to DAFIF was coming soon, is this it??:-hmmmThanks,Chris
September 5, 200520 yr It doesn't look on the NGA site like they took it down, maybe something is broken on it though.scott s..
September 5, 200520 yr Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Then I thought that they may be based in or around New Orleans, but they have pictures of the destruction, so I don't think so.
September 6, 200520 yr DAFIF has stopped his public service ...http://forum.navdata.at/viewtopic.php?t=56...=asc&highlight=
September 6, 200520 yr It still seems to be up.I've just downloaded an approach chart at 15:40 BST on 06 Sep 2005. Gerry Howard
September 6, 200520 yr Yeah, the site seems to be back up right now...but for how long? Okay, folks, if you want to get your DAFIF before they expire, I'd get them real soon. 0509 looks like it goings to be the last cycle based on the press release from another post on this thread.Chris
September 6, 200520 yr If you read the press report from NGA, it says that the public comment period has closed on the plan to take down public access to DAFIF, and a decision is expected in the Oct/Nov timeframe. I was thinking it was going to go offline at the end of the FY (30 Sep) but it sounds like that is not the case.scott s..
September 7, 200520 yr I honestly couldnt care less DAFIF is a useless source anyway with many errors and missing parts in it.Best regards:Alexander
September 7, 200520 yr >I honestly couldnt care less DAFIF is a useless source anyway>with many errors and missing parts in it.>>>Best regards:AlexanderUseless?NAVData (http://www.navdata.at) is not a useless source.Since DAFIF was their feed, we'll no longer get AIRAC updates, unless they find a new official feed. :( Imagine a controller giving you a direct to a new intersection, and you don't have it in your "sophisticated" FMC... that will be the future without NAVData/DAFIF AIRAC update cycles. :(The best,Bart
September 7, 200520 yr True but their airport charts sucks lol. So your actully saying that becuse of DAFIF no new airac cycle can be released?.Best regards:Alexander
September 7, 200520 yr Alexander,As one who is looking for accurate charts, tell me who DAFIF is poor in relation to, please. I would like to find a good source of charts (anyone else except Jeppesen?)Thanks,Chris
September 7, 200520 yr I have noted differences between DAFIF charts and the nationally published ones. I have the latest versions of the ILS charts RWY 21 at Biggin Hill (EGKB) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority's AIP site and also from DAFIF. THE CAA chart is titled ILS/DME/VOR RW 21 and the DAFIF chart ILS/DME RWY 21. I suggest that the CAA chart is the definitive one.The charts use both the BIG VOR and DME, and the I-BIG ILS and DME which are not co-located.APPROACHBecause of the proximity of London City and London Gatwick, this approach involves a DME arc. The initial approach is 242deg (BIG R062) to BIG D8 (I-BIG D7.6) not below MSA which is 2300ft. This is followed by a turn onto the BIG D7 (I-BIG) D6.6) arc. The CAA chart shows an IAF and SDF at 1800ft on the arc at BIG R041. This is followed by the left turn at 1800ft in level flight to intercept the ILS on 208 deg at FAP at BIG D4. The DAFIF chart doesn't show the IAF or SDF but shows a continuous descent to the FAP from BIG D8 (I-BIG D7.6).OBSTACLESOn a missed approach the aircraft turns right and must remain within BIG D4 (I-BIG D4.2) because of the presence of London Gatwick traffic. Both charts show 5 obstacles in that area but their positions and heights do not agree. Also DAFIF appears to shown only obstacles within a 10 nm radius of the aerodrome.GENERALThere is a restricted area (R107) which CAA shows partly within the 10 nm radius while DAFIF shows it entirely outside that radius. It seems that the 10 mn radius circles may have different centres. The CAA chart shows the 10 nm circle passing through the TUNEL waypoint (BIG D10) but the DAFIF chart shows TUNEL outside the 10 nm circle. Gerry Howard
September 7, 200520 yr Their charts are accurate. They may not have a complete civil set but that's hardly unexpected as they're meant primarilly for the military and NOT as your personal toybox as a simmer.
September 7, 200520 yr Then the CAA charts are inaccurate? You may still have a toytbox - I've grown out of mine! Gerry Howard
September 7, 200520 yr >Visit the Avsim IRC channel!Ummmm- not if you're there. I hear enough useless babble and ignorant remarks all day at work - I sure hope AVSIM monitors their IRC!
