Refugee Charter Flight: Amman (OJAM) - Toronto (CYYZ)

Recommended Posts

Air Canada and Air Transat are currently operating charter flights from Jordan to Canada (Montreal & Toronto) as part of the effort to bring Syrian refugees to Canada.  I thought this would be a good chance to do an uncommon real world flight and virtually do a good deed.

My flight was Air Canada 2199, OJAM-CYYZ.  This was flown by a 787-900 in real life, but since I don't have one of those, the PMDG 777-200LR was a nice stand-in.

On the tarmac at OJAM ready to board our passengers:

Doors closed ready to go!

Taxiing to runway 24 for departure

Cleared for takeoff!

V1, rotate

The visibility is not great climbing as OJAM disappears behind us

Climbing over Jerusalem

The moon reflects off the water just off the coast of Israel

Fast forward to top of descent, cruising at FL400

First glimpse of Toronto as we break through the clouds (or probably somewhere in York Region to be exact)

Passing over Airport Road on short final for runway 23.  There's a gas station and a Wendy's at this location that make for great spotting opportunities!

Taxiing to the infield terminal which has been reactivated to receive Syrian refugees

Welcome to Canada!

Thanks for looking.  Sorry for the small size, but unfortunately the way photobucket handles file extensions for full-size pictures doesn't allow them to be posted here...I should probably look for a better place to store pictures!

Interestingly, it was only 1 degree © colder in Toronto than it was in Amman, granted with real world weather it was night in Amman and daytime in Toronto...

Thanks everyone.  OJAM was default (couldn't find anything else) and CYYZ is FlyTampa.  I do have replacement textures for the default airports which spruces them up a bit!  I also have ORBX North American landclass and UTX Canada running (with landclass disabled).  Maybe most exciting is that I could run all that without an P3D 3.1 (plus the refinements PMDG has made done to the 777)!

PS, any suggestions on a good (free) place to upload images other than photobucket?

Very nice shots!!

Suggestions for photos: Use flickr. I used Google Photos for several years, which was great when it was Picasa Web Albums but I feel like the interface sucks now, with Google+ Photos.. so I use flickr.
