Victoria Looking Very Good.

Just wanted to thank Holger and the others for making this city come to life. I love flying out of the helipad on Camel Point. Landing there is still quite a challenge but it sure is fun trying. I love all the detail and AI shipping. It would be cool if you could add sounds to the ships. A couple of blasts of the horn on the cruise ship before it leaves would be totally cool. Not a complaint by any means just an idea.No doubt about it...Ronson2k

yes it does look great, a very nice package. I noticed what I thought were the two bridges just northwest of the harbor in their screen shots, they did not show up in my scenery though everything else did.good job many thanks to you guys

Concur. The authors are to be complimented. Victoria Harbour detail is first rate. My problem is that it is completely land-locked. Obviously conflicting scenery but the question is, which scenery. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind words about our Victoria package - glad you enjoy it."It would be cool if you could add sounds to the ships."That would be cool indeed but it's something that FS doesn't readily allow for. It's possible to add a sound (or sound collage) to an effect but that would be audible even from 20 miles away ;-) The other option would be to use LAGO's payware FSSE utility to add your own sounds; I don't own it because of their crummy customer service."I noticed what I thought were the two bridges just northwest of the harbor in their screen shots, they did not show up in my scenery though everything else did."I'll have to check with Jon on that, he's the one who made and placed the objects."Is this working with UT or MS PNW installed? It does look very good."It is fully compatible with UT USA and/or Canada. We haven't tested it with Megascenery PNW but since PNW doesn't include B.C. I don't see any reason for concern."Victoria Harbour detail is first rate. My problem is that it is completely land-locked."That's what happens if a big city keeps pumping its raw sewage into the ocean ;-) Just kidding (though I think that's still true). I suspect that you have the two entries reversed in your scenery library: "Victoria - Landclass" needs to be ABOVE "Victoria - Landscape" in your scenery library menu in FS9.Cheers, Holger

I've downloaded ready to install, Holger .... but, of course, I've consolidated all the previous bits and pieces for Vancouver (as practicable) so now don't know what the heck to remove, given several recommendations in your new README.If I take out the lot and start again, would you do me/us one quick favour. Just list here what can, or should work with your scenery? Nigel Grant's CYVR is OK, for example? What about Ted Grigg's stuff? Harvey's stuff? Jon's early stuff? Larry Silsbee's stuff? Ken Peter's CAT4 and CYCD? Hoping this is not too much trouble. Thanks. I don't run UT or MS PNW, by the way, but have FSGenesis mesh, that's all.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Hi Mark, let me jump in here. This scenery is for Victoria and area so most of the addons you mention are unaffected. Let me address each one:Nigel's CYVR: unaffectedTed Grigg's Vancouver Harbour: unaffectedHarvey's EVI04.zip: you can either put it at a lower priority (and get a few funnies), or wait for a special version that Harvey is working on that will blend with this sceneryJon's early stuff: per the readme, this replaces vicenh02, vicenh03, vicenh04, viflat, and vi_tr4. Delete those folders.Ken's work: should be unaffectedLarry's stuff: well, of course Larry's great boats are in this readme, but this will not affect his Grand Coulee or anything else I'm aware of.Lars Hoyer's work should also be unaffected. The mesh in the package will override FSG mesh, but will be at least as accurate.Jon

I noticed what>I thought were the two bridges just northwest of the harbor in>their screen shots, they did not show up in my scenery though>everything else did.>>good job >>many thanks to you guysThanks, Mike! Well you've got a strange one. For a start, check that you've "Bay Street Bridge.BGL" and "Johnson Street Bridge.BGL" in your landscapescenery folder. If so, please provide a screenshot and we'll figure this out.Jon

What Holger said. And on the UT compatibility: there are two slight glitches and we may see a 3rd party patch for this: two sections of UT highway will be missing due to a technical issue with UT. Hwy 17 from Elk Lake to Swartz Bay and a stretch of Hwy 1 near Duncan.Jon

To Jon and HolgerI installed your addon last night and took a burn around in the B206 to take a closer look. Jon as you know I am in and out of here 5 times a day in the T/O and I must say the work you two have done has got this place looking very real. Especially the addition of the buildings behind our terminals. Every year they build more and more condos around landing area Alpha. To the poind where if you are landing Eastbound you really get a closed in feeling on short final. If I might make a couple of suggestions.1 Put "The Line" on the east end of Alpha. A set of checkerboards that will land you in legal trouble if you land short or long.2 Add more large buildings along the Laurel Point and Songhees shorlines to improve the boxed in feeling.Every day I am at work I marvel at how real you have got YWH feeling already. All we need now is a Twin Otter that actually flys like the real thing and some gusty xwinds out of the south to finish the picture.I had a friend over the other day. He flys the Saab 340 for Calm Air. I showed him the freeware Winnipeg scenery and he was blown away. Right down to the brick wall they have to watch not to hit when parking. I have an huge amount of respect for the work you designers do. Without you and the internet this hobby would be dead. Thank you. My girlfriend and my dog don't thank you. But I certainly do. Jon if you have any questions or need some pictures email me.Graham

Thanks Graham, your experience is invaluable!A couple of weeks ago (when we'd finished all but tweaks and fixes to this scenery) I took walked along the Songhees shoreline, and indeed noted how the condos and hotels box in the harbour. So that's certainly high on my list for the future. That's when I saw the windsock on Pelly Island which I added. (Are there any other windsocks we should add?)I also think the scenery would be greatly improved with the addition of the Coast Guard facility at Shoal Point, CFB Esquimalt, the Empress and the Parliament Buildings. All in good time. Now if we could figure out a way to duplicate those strobes on the marine lights during flight movements that would be really cool!As it is I find it lots of fun to fly my Aerosoft West Coast Beaver from Vancouver water to your dock. When there are more AI seaplanes avaibable, you'll see that they cozy quite nicely up to your dock, as well as your neighbour's.I'll talk to you more about "The line" offline. Thanks again for your help,Jon

Jon, Thanks for info! Looking forward to enjoying your latest---many thanks to you & Holger. JackD

I was checking and couldn't you add a sound to the "Aircraft" (AI ship) like any other plane. You could control what the sound does just like in an aircraft. You can place the sound in a position say the rear for props mid section for engines and up top for horn. There are quite a few websites that have cruise ship layouts for tourist booking these whould give you the position of the sounds but I'm thinking you have drawings of the ships. They are really great models. I noticed the AI ships have no sound files. The only problem would be in getting the correct sounds for the ships. You could perhaps add a bell to the sail boats as they often have one. You could add water lapping sounds to the ships/boats that are sitting at dockside. There are also some seagulls that someone has put up that could have gull sounds added to. This would make for some really great atmosphere. From a flight sim standpoint not that important perhaps but still atmosphere can be cool. I'm thinking that's how LAGO does it. They add an "aircraft" to the scenery and then give it sounds. This gives them control over every sound coming out the "aircraft". This would work for any object you placed in the scene. They of course all need a "Flight Plan" to get things sounding. I've never built a flight plan for AI aircraft so I don't know what the limitations are on movement (stationary movement). I also don't know what afcad2 offers in ways of controlling aircraft at an airport to get those (planes) to stay put. There is also the frame rate hit as so many AI aircraft come online aswell (a major pain and why I don't have that many AI aircraft). The only other limitation in that would be the limits that FS9 places on the sounds of FS aircraft (AI aircraft). A horn blast may be beyond FS's abitlity from a realism standpoint to get the sound loud enough. I've never heard a cruise ship firing up. I think they probably stay running nearly all the time. This could be hard to simulate. It might be done if you can have it at the gate (dock) and running. This could be a way to get all the sounds in there from a stationary standpoint. The ones that don't move would be at the gate (forever).I'm just kinda brain storming the sound thing I might run some tests to see if I could get something worth persuing further. No doubt about it...Ronson2k

Hi Ronson, thanks for sharing those ideas; very interesting information.Unfortunately, FS has thrown us a curve ball by hard-wiring the sounds of AI traffic to a combination of engine type and weight. The adding or aliasing of custom sound files doesn't work for AI at all, which is why the AI ships don't come with a sound subfolder. All available AI sounds are stored in FS9Sound - the wav files that start with AI_ or XAI_. One can replace those with other wav files but then all single-engine AI props (for example) would use that sound.LAGO's FSSE payware add-on allows to place sounds in specific (not moving) places but the custom software that is behind it is not available to freeware designers. Alternatively, FSHotSeat - http://www.fshotseat.com/ - might offer the tools to add custom sounds to AI ships but it's payware too and I haven't tried it.Anyway, I fully agree that sounds can create great ambience at seaplane bases, quays, or airports, and I hope that future versions of FS offer a better way of adding custom sounds.Cheers, Holger
