30hz Motion Blur

Featured Replies

Does anyone else experience the motion blur that comes with 30hz while panning? In Rob's videos, there isn't any motion blur at all....what's the deal?

No motion blur here either. I use 30hz exclusively for P3D 2.5 and 3.1.

I have yet to experience "motion blur" in flight simulator.

Almost as if the image is jumpy. That's the only way I can describe it.

Definitely see that jumpiness on my screen at 30hz.

I can see it in Rob's videos sometimes as well.

Part of it depends on screen size and how close you are to the screen.

Bigger screen and closer view equals more obvious.

Panning rate is the major factor.

Do the maths.

You can hold the HAT switch button down and pan a complete 360 in say two seconds.

At 30hz/FPS each frame displayed will show a view six degrees (360/30*2) horizontally displaced from the previous one. There is no way that is going to look smooth, at least to me.

That's really interesting. So perhaps slowing the pan rate may prevent the jumpiness....

What kind of display do you have?  I renamed my HDMI 1 input to PC for my 40" LG HD TV and I have smoother display now.

You renamed it? Not sure I follow...

I'm using my display port in/out (1.2). It is HDMI capable, but I used the display port cable instead. Currently running the LG 34UC87C. Native refresh rates are 30/50/60.

Hi Andrew,

LG 34UC87C, looks like it is a PC monitor.  Not sure what kind of display port cable it uses but it shouldn't lag regardless of the input unless it were VGA.  At 30Hz my display definitely is jumpy, not smooth at all, have you tried 60Hz?  Do you use nVidia Inspector?  There is a good youtube video by Matt Davies which I used as a base to set P3D v3.1 up:

In case anyone reading this has a HDTV there is a way to get ultra fast display without any lag.  I changed my TV from a standard TV display by selecting "Input" using the LG remote, highlighting "HDMI1" and then pressing the red button with the white dot on the bottom of the remote, from there you select the "device to change name" highlight it and set it to PC.

Yeah, I've tried 60hz. With frames unlimited Vsync on and tripple buffering on, it's very smooth when getting above 45 fps or so. I've tried the FR limiter of 30, but I can't quite tell which is smoother. It's still jumpy when locked at 30....definitely not as smooth as 60hz uncapped.

So below 45 FPS you start to see the jumpiness huh?  On my sustem things are relatively smooth down to ~20 FPS, I wonder what is going on?  Have you installed nVidia drivers by prescribed methods?

I just changed the monitor response time to medium...It appears to have gotten a little bit better. I have also installed the drivers the right way. This is the only program that does this.

Have you installed new scenery that you are just flying in for the first time?  What about your shaders, have you rebuilt them?  Delete the Shaders folder located in %AppData%\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 and see if that helps.

There's also the P3D config guide, maybe there's something in there that might help:  http://www.avsim.com/files/file/41-basic-fsx-p3d-configuration-guide/

I'm running out of ideas.

What refresh rate do you run your LG at?

Ive been saying for months that 30 is bad, why do you think its hard to even get a monitor with that setting? TV can get away with it, but your watching things filmed at around 28 fps and your sitting a mile away. watch a football match on 30hz.....omg that's why even TV need 100+

There is a huge difference between my 60 Hz and my 120 hz. 30Hz is like going back it time.

If 30hz and 30 fps works for some people then great.....good for them. I would not put my eyes though that. :shok:

All it is, the refresh of the screen is matching the fps. But 30hz is bad...end of.

Put your screen on it max Hz and FPS to unlimited. AM if HT is on and setting right for your PC.

On the "smooth" vid Rob posted if you goto the very end and watch the last few seconds you see him moving his mouse round fast in a circle, you SEE around 4-5 mouse pointer arrows, that how bad the screen is refreshing, on my 120hz i would get around 20 mouse pointers arrows drawn on screen if I did that. In game would depent on FPS but still, watch and see how bad it was.

Now move your mouse round now on this white page and see how many pointer arrows you get?

Regardless of my feeling about 30hz, Rob does great work and I have a lot of respect for him. I just respectfully disagree on the topic of 30hz.

I use a refresh of 60Hz, don't think I ever set it to 30Hz.  Make sure that your desktop resolution and P3D resolution both match.
