AM=116=01,11,01,00

feel free to put them on:

11,11,00,11=0,1,4,5,6,7 - more bandwidth to addons overall

or

10,00,00,11=0,1,7 - even

or

00,00,00,11=0,1 - more bandwidth to sim

Which of the above would you set them to?

You can spread your addons around depending on what they do, *avoiding core 1* (LPs 2,3) since 116 puts the main sim thread on core 1. Go for putting them all on 0,1 first.

Say you got head tracker and weather addon exes, you may find work better together when one is set to 0,1 and the other is set to 1,7 so they share the two HT LPs of core zero for their primary threads, the first LPs they come to from the right going left (0..7).

Lol I'm confused

ATM I a have ezdok, ut2 on 0,1,6,7 and asn on 0,6,7

Running flawlessly

Should I add my controls to 0,1,6,7 also

Thanks

"feel free to put them on:

so - yes 0,1,6,7 is OK.

it's probably me...lol

I was trying to show the two extremes for your addons to be scattered amongst:

11,11,00,11=0,1,4,5,6,7

00,00,00,11=0,1

mainly avoid core 1 second in from the right, LPs 2 and 3

generally best to give two LPs per addon rather than one, three is plenty for anything.

I have been experimenting along with the suggestions in this thread and found that in the end, with my 6700k OC 4.8 MHz, the best combo is HT OFF, no AM. VSync ON, TB ON, FPS unlimited. I use Process Lasso for further testing and noticed that even on 4 cores and no HT, P3D v3.2 often loads the first core much more than others; however just interacting with the affinity settings without changing them evens out the load across all 4 cores. I get 60 FPS in cruise in the PMDG 777, and anywhere from 30 to 40 at a hungry airport. However, unless at 60 FPS or above, panning in TrackIR is very choppy at 30 FPS, and improves gradually at higher FPS.

And so I noticed something weird, and maybe I should ask about this in a different thread: test situation is parked at the gate in Dubai in 777, above settings; I have about 30 FPS. TrackIR movements very choppy, not sure this qualifies as stutter. When I pause the sim, CPU usage isn't affected enormously, but my GTX 980ti goes instantly from 50-60% load to 85-90% and obviously, panning smoothness is back at about 60 FPS. When I un-pause the sim, the GPU instantly drops back down to 55%, frames drop to 30, again stutters returns.

Does anybody have an idea of why P3D would unleash the GPU when paused but throttle it down when running?

As a follow-up to my previous post, I have been doing a lot of testing around this GPU/CPU balance as I now have achieved the most amazingly fluid results in less demanding situations (in flight, small airports) and am trying to duplicate it as often as possible. In order to save time (and this might yield unforeseen results later in flight) I simply loaded various planes at various airports and compared. Same settings in all situations, same weather settings (even though injected by ASN and thus changing), REX, ORBX, etc.

The one, major variable is add-on airports, somehow unsurprisingly. I can load the PMDG 777 at any stock airport and get 60 FPS, high GPU load and butter smooth panning in TrackIR, regardless of weather. Same in cruise at a high FL, other than while ASN is injecting weather.

However at add-on airports, FPS drops to 30-40, GPU loads decreases and choppy TrackIR panning is back. I always use Traffic Manager to drop AI traffic down to 50, so shouldn't have a huge impact. OMDB and CYYZ are the worst, KDEN is among the best. Pause the sim and GPU load goes up, FPS at 60 and smooth tracking until I un-pause.

So there is something being rendered/processed at those airports that taxes the CPU so much it stops feeding the GPU efficiently, as far as I can see. But what is it? Is it moving jetways, airport vehicles, sound? Whatever it is, it does seem to be directly graphical because with the sim paused, GPU use goes up and I have great performance and can still pan around in all views - unless the sim sees fit to keep rendering the same scenery all the time when running.

If I could find the cause and single-out the element that is so costly, I'd gladly get rid of it in exchange for movie-like smoothness. Any feedback from those who have deeper knowledge of the P3D code will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Vince

On page 1 of this thread, those settings, are they still valid for P3D v 3.2?

I'd like to try them but want to make sure 3.2 (not 3.3) will work okay with them.

Thanks.

Hello guys,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

I have followed your guide. I have i7 3770K HT ON and OC to 4.3 GHz, and GTX980. I have set following affinity via Process Lasso. And it works.

P3D - 2,4,5,6

ASN (and pretty much everything else which communicates with P3D) to 0,1,3,7

I have also set AM to 116

I must say, that it is much smoother. But I have a problem with texture loading time. This problem is not with the airports, but only with the land itself.

I have FTX Global, FTX Vector and FTX OpenLC Europe.

And the problem is, that those textures are really blurry. In time they will load correctly. This problem is especially "significant" when I am on approach with a high speed airplane (Like 737) when those textures can't keep up with me. When I fly some GA aircraft, it's fine.

Is there anything I can do to improve this? I have settings according to the first post.

Thanks!

Uhhhhh. . . yeah.

The sad fact is, it's utterly pathetic to still have to obsess over this crap.

At 4K, it's murder. All of it. At 1440P, it's still rocky. At 1080P--yes, frickin' 1080P!!!--it can often still suck. That's terrible. I know, I know, this isn't a first-person shooter with unrealistic physics and a limited world-view.

But still.

Still.

STILL!

I want to be able to focus on how to fly, not on this. (maybe some day?)

Sheesh!

Best,

marshall

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread. I have been simming for 15 years, and this thread finally helped me get to the point where I can once again enjoy the hobby instead of constantly "tweaking" to fix problems. I was having rally bad stuttering all the sudden, and my clouds had disappeared at the cumulous levels. I put my results and system spec's here, but just wanted to say thank you for all this. I think the most helpful thing for me was the Process Lasso stuff and setting the core usage properly. Suddenly my frame rate is actually up, but more importantly - the stuttering is gone.

P3D AM: 1,3,5,6, Priority: Normal

All other Simulator add ons (AS16, ASCA, EZ-Dok, etc..) are on 2, 4, 6, 7, priority "normal", except EZ-Dok, which I put at "high"

All other windows software, I set the priority to "normal", but didn't change the AM.

P3D v 3.3, Orbx (but not Vector), AS16, PMDG 737NGX, GSX, Rex Textures and Soft Clouds, ASCA, Aivlasoft EFB, Various add-on scenery files.

Intel i7 4790K, 32GB Corsair Vengeance (3000MHZ), Z97 Pro Gamer Mobo, 512 SSD Primary and Secondary Drives

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB FTW

I run 2 monitors, but I only use the second for outside-programs (Process-Lasso, EFB, ACARS (from VA), etc..). The second is 1920x1080, the primary is 2560x1600 (for now..)

Thank you again for all the work put into this!

-Josh
