Anyone using the mesh , head 090 and then turn 120 once you cross the channel and fly around 90 kms and then turn south. The western Ghats are there.

This is funny the tile N12 E74 is just water, don't understand. Guess I need to fly from N18 to N08 to check all tiles. I wish XPlane had a bigger map.

Zul, have a look at Andras's DSF2GML tool. It will convert your generated scenery into a GML file which you can open with qGIS and see what's going on.

Haha I am going between MSFS / XPlane makes thing confusing, but FSX / FS9 stuff we have done is pretty good , my FSX thread is "Mesh and Landclass" in the FSX -FSE SE forum .    FSX / FS9 for great wx visuals and XPlane for the great Mesh + openstreetmap and the excellent AS350 B3.

Taking a flight on vatsim from VABB towards the south , it looks great, though my laptop can't handle HDR and Clouds but I swithced them ON. 

Just did N22 E088-89 Calcutta. Gonna try it.

Calcutta tiles not good

Going to try the same tile in FSX LOD13 and the same SRTM DEM. The problem is not the elevation but there is a big patch of water south of VECC which shouldn't be there.

 

I wonder how Andras does his HD + UHD Meshes, I tried HD Mesh Himalayas and went to VISM (Shimla Airport) my fps was like 10-12 , so I downloaded SRTM 1arc tile N31 E077 (this is the lat long for Shimla Airport)  and I compiled it, the .dsf size is like 40 Mb compared to the HD Mesh tile - N31 E077 which is around 25 Mb. I overwrote the HD Mesh tile with the one I generated and loaded Xplane with HDR ON and I was surprised to see 20 fps but of course like the HD Mesh there were no trees in my mesh but still , now the other thing is his mesh the Shimla airport runway is nice and flat but in my mesh it has spikes, hmm could it be the SRTM hmm yeah must be. In fact most of the major airports in Mesh to the west coast of India heading down south have this elevation issues on the runway just can't take off.

 

More research needed. for now the mesh creation is on a stdby.

I tried with a new data source from the Indian Government and this DEM is even worst. The whole coastline is way tooooo high.

I carried my Lenovo Flex 2 to work which is an i5 4210U with 4GB RAM and 2GB VRAM, copied Alpilotx HD Mesh Himalayas and fired up Xplane , surprised with everything just below MAX I am getting 20-22 fps which is just fine with the HD Mesh, my conclusion is more VRAM seems to be better with the HD Mesh. Because my other laptop a Satellite L755 an i5 2430m with 8GB RAM and 1GB VRAM does not seem to hold the HD Mesh well. But the Toshiba I run at a downclock of 2.0 Ghz of the 2.8.

 

 But I guess the performance would vary on other systems.

BTW the resolution is 1920 x 1080.  Some more testing on both laptops will be done .

 

I will try with AW3D but the registration keeps failing.
